J.Lo Had ‘PTSD’ Before Wedding Because It ‘All Fell Apart’ the First Time

Jennifer Lopez recently went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote her movie “Shotgun Wedding,” but she ended up talking about her very own shotgun nuptials.

While J.Lo and hubby Ben Affleck had an extravagant wedding outside Savannah, Georgia back in August, they officially tied the knot in Las Vegas one month before. Now, the star is speaking out about their last-minute Little White Chapel wedding — and having “a little PTSD” beforehand.

J.Lo and Afflecks’ romance spans 20 years

As you may know, J.Lo and Affleck have a long history. They met in 2002 on the set of their movie “Gigli,” which absolutely tanked in the box office. Still, Affleck called the movie a “gift” for introducing him to the Bronx-born beauty. They confirmed their romance, Lopez divorced then-husband Cris Judd, and Affleck popped the question that year (hello pink diamond).

However, the two sadly called it quits by early 2004, citing the intense media frenzy that circled their relationship. Lopez recently told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that it was “the biggest heartbreak” of her life when they called off the wedding. She said, “I honestly felt like I was going to die… It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn’t get it right.”

20 years later, the “Let’s Get Loud” singer said: “It has the most would-never-happen-in-Hollywood ending.”

And that it does. Still on cloud nine, Lopez told Kimmel that being back with Affleck is “a miracle,” and feels “very inspired” again. In fact, she just finished up her new album, and wrote a song titled “Midnight Trip to Vegas” about their initial wedding.

The track references a pink Cadillac parked outside the Little White Wedding Chapel they married in, which Lopez describes as very memorable.

Lopez explained to Kimmel that planning their Georgia wedding was “so stressful,” and it began to take its toll on her. Why? Well, the star kept thinking about the past. She explained, “20 years ago, we were supposed to get married… and it kind of all fell apart back then… and this time I had a little PTSD.”

The “On The Floor” singer said she kept wondering, “Is this happening? Is this really happening?”

Turns out, Affleck came up with the best solution to all the anxiety around the nuptials. He told her, “F**k it, let’s just go to Vegas and get married tonight.”

Lopez agreed — she went to rehearsal, came back home, and they flew out to Sin City. They brought out their kids as witnesses that same night, and actually stood in line at the county clerks’ office to get their license. They married at around midnight, without an Elvis impersonator. It seems love really doesn’t “cost a thing.”

Apart from her upcoming song about the Vegas wedding, J.Lo gave more details about her new album. Interestingly enough, her ninth album is titled “This Is Me… Now,” which is a sequel to her 2002 album “This Is Me… Then.” Going back to the year she first met Affleck, Lopez is coming full-circle.

She said the new album will also feature a song titled “Dear Ben Pt. II,” the answer to her iconic 2002 song “Dear Ben” which dove into her love for the actor. While “Dear Ben” has lyrics like “I love you, you’re perfect, A manifestation of my dreams,” there’s no word yet on the new track’s lyrics. That being said, Lopez said “This album is 20 years older, and so are [they].”
