Regional Mexican Royalty: Peso Pluma & Tito Double P Take Over BMI Latin Awards
Peso Pluma’s last couple of years have been nothing short of fascinating. The Regional Mexican Music singer has topped the charts. He was accused of laundering money for cartels and is getting ready for a tour. Quite the whirlwind of emotions and media attention. No one can deny his powerful position in the music industry, and Broadcast Music, Inc. is honoring Peso Pluma with the BMI Champion Award for the BMI Latin Awards. BMI hosts several award shows for various genres of music.
BMI is honoring Peso Pluma for his incredible career in music so far
Peso Pluma, whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, has brought so much love and attention to Regional Mexican Music. His sound and lyrics have catapulted him to international stardom. Along the way, he has become a household name, and for good reason.
“Peso Pluma’s extraordinary success has not only reshaped the landscape of Música Mexicana but also propelled it onto the global stage,” BMI Vice President, Creative, Latin, Jesus Gonzalez said in a statement. “His innovative sound and undeniable influence have opened new doors for Latin music, and we are excited to celebrate his success alongside Tito Double P, whose dedication and talent have played a key role in Peso Pluma’s journey while also marking the beginning of his impressive career. We also look forward to honoring our BMI Familia, which includes exceptional songwriters, producers, and publishers behind the most-performed Latin songs of the past year during the ceremony.”
A well-deserved award
The singer’s meteoric rise to fame has been impressive. After his successful, Grammy-winning first album, GÉNESIS, Peso Pluma released the Grammy-nominated album ÉXODO. He also toured the U.S. with his sophomore album, making 35 stops.
With this award, Peso Plum joins SZA, Khalid, Residente, Sebastian Krys, Inflo, Mark Ronson, and Keith Urban.
The 2025 BMI Latin Awards will also honor Tito Double P, Peso Pluma’s collaborator and cousin, with the BMI Impact Award. The ceremony will honor Tito Double P, Jesús Roberto Laija García, for his work that helped to uplift Peso Pluma to the global fame he enjoys today. Tito Double P has had many successful songs and collaborations along the way in his career, making his own mark on Regional Mexican Music.
Seeing the two cousins honored side-by-side for their contributions to Regional Mexican Music is heartwarming. We have all been forced to play with our cousins before, and maybe it wasn’t the most fun. But seeing family ride together to global fame and success is what it is all about.
Latinos will always ride with their families, no matter what. This moment in Latin Music history is a sweet reminder of the importance of family for the Latino community. Congratulations, Peso Pluma and Tito Double P. These awards are well-deserved after all the work you have put into making Regional Mexican Music one of the fastest-growing genres worldwide.
