Arturo Castro’s “Alternatino” is moving from Comedy Central to the new streaming app QuiBi. The Latino sketch comedy show is in its second season and will now be aired on QuiBi using their 10-minute platform.

QuiBi, short for Quick Bits, is a new streaming app. The platform offers people small, digestible videos that are 10 minutes long offering people something to watch while in line or waiting for an appointment. Now, Latinos can get their own unique comedy fix while out and about.

The show is something that will give Latinos a chance to see themselves and their families represented.

We have all been on the receiving end of some very awkward conversations with our parents. It is something that all of us have had to deal with and no matter how many conversations you have, they don’t get any easier. This video of a dad telling his son about sex is just too accurate for 2020. There is so much that parents just don’t know and it is clear that they can use a lesson from time to time.

It really is nice to see a Latino man running a sketch comedy show giving us all of the jajajas we can handle.

This OG sketch is probably one of the best from the “Alternatino” list. What exactly makes someone an OG? If using a rotary phone, battling polio, and riding a horse for transportation aren’t OG, what is? Like, that is some of the most OG stuff around. Imagine being able to survive all of that and still be around to tell the tale. That’s some OG stuff right there.

Comedy Central is still involved in a partnership with QuiBi.

“I’m so thrilled that I get to keep my partnership with Comedy Central while adding this exciting new platform to the team,” Castro wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m so glad we have the opportunity to keep talking about the things that matter to us and to make y’all laugh along the way.”

QuiBi fell short of their original viewership projections claiming that COVID-19 is the problem.

The app, which cost $1.8 billion to launch, is experiencing a rough start. Projections from QuiBi were that they would have 7 million active users and $250 million in revenue. Instead, The New York Times reports that QuiBi has been downloaded by 2.9 million users and 1.3 million have become active users. QuiBi would say the download number is closer to 3.5 million.

QuiBi fell out of the top 50 downloaded apps on iPhone one week after it was launched. It is currently #125 on the iTunes chart.

“I attribute everything that has gone wrong to coronavirus,” Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of QuiBi, told The New York Times. “Everything. But we own it.”

Katzenberg added: “Is it the avalanche of people that we wanted and were going for out of launch? The answer is no. It’s not up to what we wanted. It’s not close to what we wanted.”

Given another shot, Katzenberg would have handled the launch of QuiBi differently.

While Katzenberg regrets the lackluster start to the app, he tells The New York Times that there is enough money being generated that he doesn’t regret it. The $1.8 billion raised to start the short form media app was raised between Chinese company Alibaba and Hollywood.
