Between “X,” “Wednesday,” “Scream,” and “Scream VI,” it’s clear that Jenna Ortega loves horror. And horror fans love her, too. The actress may be brushing shoulders with another iconic character as Warner Bros. announced a second “Beetlejuice” movie.

Based on her established relationship with director Tim Burton, many fans are sure that Ortega will, in fact, be starring in the sequel.

There’s a good chance Jenna Ortega will star in “Beetlejuice 2”

With another successful project under their belts, it makes sense that Ortega and Burton would be looking for a way to collaborate again. “Wednesday” was a huge success for Netflix and it seems like their respective vibes complement each other very well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ortega would be playing Lydia’s daughter in the upcoming sequel. Additionally, Winona Ryder will be reprising her character alongside Catherine O’Hara as Delia and Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice himself.

Although Geena Davis expressed interest in reprising her role as recently as last year, neither she nor Alec Baldwin appeared in any announcements about the returning cast members. Warner Bros. revealed the “Beetlejuice 2” news at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

However, because there’s no finalized budget for the sequel, Ortega is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros.

There may be a reason why we’re getting this sequel when we are

Fans have been asking for a “Beetlejuice” sequel since the release of the 1988 original. But why now?

Looking at Warner Bros. upcoming slate of releases, it seems like newly-appointed CEO David Zaslav is playing it safe. From June through the rest of the year, every theatrical Warner Bros. release is a sequel, reboot, or adaptation of some kind.

There’s “The Flash” this June, “Barbie” in July, “The Nun 2” in September, “The Exorcist: Believer” in October, “Dune: Part Two” in November, and “Wonka” in December, among many others.

Looking ahead to next year, it’s pretty much the same story. A new “Godzilla vs. Kong,” a “Fury Road” spinoff, the “Joker” sequel, and an animated “Lord of the Rings” films are just a few of Warner Bros.’ 2024 releases.

Michael Keaton is reprising not one but two iconic characters

And now, with Michael Keaton also reprising his role as Batman, the timing seems perfect to sign him on for another “Beetlejuice” movie. Zaslav’s whole approach to Warner Bros. Discovery is about staying the course and relying on what works. A “Beetlejuice” sequel, if done right, is a surefire hit.

However, Zaslav did infamously cancel the $90 million “Batgirl” movie, opting instead to have Keaton’s Batman appear in “The Flash” alongside Ezra Miller. That film will also see Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman while introducing Sasha Calle as Supergirl.

By scrapping the straight-to-streaming content and focusing on theatrical releases, Zaslav seems like he’s trying to put these Warner Bros. characters to good use. This may mean a string of new “Beetlejuice” movies or, just as likely, a spin-off franchise starring Ortega.

Whatever the case may be, fans are anxiously awaiting for an announcement from Warner Bros. about the direction of the upcoming sequel. Although they have not yet set a release date, sources say production is set to begin in London at the end of May or beginning of June.
