Peter Weber Is The New Bachelor And He Is Making A Point To Show Off His Cuban Roots

Season 24 of “The Bachelor” is finally here, and we know you’re already exhausted, but you should know this season is actually worth watching. We totally understand that every season host Chris Harrison always promises us something new and unlike anything we’ve experienced before — but this time it’s true! Our first Latin Bachelor is here! (The first one didn’t count and was a total tool, but more on that later).

Peter Weber is proving to be the best Bachelor so far, and we have to thank his Cuban family for it.

We know the show just premiered, but we’re already so excited for this season, and it’s entirely because of his family and his views on family and love. First a brief recap on the massive 3-hour premiere episode last night on ABC: Peter Weber, a Delta pilot, met his future wife, but he just doesn’t know which one it is yet. He has to choose among 30 female contestants. Yup, that’s the premise of the show, and that’s that. After so many bachelors and bachelorettes, it is hard to distinguish one contestant from another, but alas, that is the name of the game.  The main reason we’re super excited for this season is that Weber is expressing why marriage and family mean so much to him, and that’s attributed to his parents and Cuban culture.

“You see a lot of my Cuban roots come out from probably the first episode,” he said in an interview with Us Weekly. “There’s definitely a theme of the whole Hispanic side throughout the show, I’m not gonna lie. It’s cool. And I love that.”

In the first episode, viewers got to learn more about his parents and his brother.

Weber shared how much he loves his Cuban background. He went on and on about the fantastic Cuban food and how he and his family are always dancing in the kitchen and having a great time. Seems to good to be true? Who cares!?

The 28-year-old Bachelor, who reportedly still lives at home, expressed that his Cuban-born mom was a former pageant queen and met her husband when she worked as a flight attendant, and her Weber’s dad worked as a pilot. How romantic!

Weber has also talked in-depth to his new girlfriends that he wants a healthy marriage just like his parents have. He said he is seeking a real connection with someone who values family as much as he does. Okay, okay, but now to the real stuff. Will any of these ladies be his match?

Another fresh of breath air is that this season also features a number of Latinas.

While we know many of them won’t last very long, it’s so good to see Latinas represented on the show. Also, it’s no lie that men often choose a partner that is a lot like their mothers. So, we’re thinking Weber might want to Latina just like his mom.

Yet still, there’s a lot of people on social media who couldn’t care less that Weber is Cuban, mainly because he’s a half-white Latino.

Some are saying that ABC is pushing the diversity card too much and “not for the right reasons.” The network has been criticized for not featuring enough Black or brown people. So, just because Weber is half Cuban, he is still not representative of real Cuban culture.

Mike Johnson, who appeared alongside Weber on the last season of The Bachelorette, said that Weber’s inclusion does not represent true diversity. Last year, many wanted Johnson to be the first Black Bachelor, but Weber got the job.

“Yes, Peter has a Cuban mom, but let’s just be honest — he’s white, right? And that’s just being completely transparent,” Johnson said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think that there should be an Asian lead, an Indian lead… diversity is not just black and white. It’s not just salt and pepper.”

As we mentioned earlier, the first Latino Bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis (season 18) was a total snore and hardly ever spoke about his Venezuelan roots. He was a true mimbo. Weber, on the other hand, has a job and is sweet and more importantly knows how to please a woman. But more than anything, his love for his family is what makes him so attractive. We just hope he continues on this path and doesn’t do anything to shame our people.
