Few government officials ever reach the status of daddy, but when they do, it is intense. In Mexico, Omar García Harfuch is being elevated to national daddy status. The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection is getting everyone’s attention right now because of his role in taking out El Mencho, the feud he had with the cartel leader, and his good looks. Here is what we know about the man affectionately known as Mexico’s Batman.

Omar García Harfuch is Mexico’s newest daddy

The government official is becoming Mexico’s latest thirst obsession. Omar García Harfuch serves as the country’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection. So, basically, he is already a hero to anyone who likes to feel safe and protected. He has held the position since 2024 and has overseen operations to curb cartel violence and the spread of drug trafficking throughout the nation.

“We’re not saying the problem is solved,” García Harfuch told The New York Times last year. He added, “What we’re doing is hitting the criminal structure at the bottom, in the middle, and at the top.”

García Harfuch was launched into daddy status after spearheading the operation to capture El Mencho in February 2026. It was a culmination of years of work and investigations to locate the cartel leader’s whereabouts. While the United States provided some intel to the search, García Harfuch has implemented aggressive strategies to target and eliminate cartels in Mexico. Aside from killing El Mencho, the secretary is credited with seizing 135 tons of drugs, including fentanyl.

However, none of that is getting as much attention these days as his looks. Social media is sharing in their collective thirst for García Harfuch. If you are feeling a little chilly, you can get a cobija from a tiendita with an AI-generated image of García Harfuch shirtless.

Finding El Mencho was personal

García Harfuch and El Mencho have been chasing each other for years. Prior to being the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, he was the Mexico City Police Chief from 2019 to 2023. During that time, he was already searching for El Mencho and working to curb cartel activity. This put a target on him.

On June 26, 2020, García Harfuch was ambushed by a group of men disguised as road workers. According to Mexican media, the group of men fired onto the car carrying García Harfuch, killing two people working security for the chief and a bystander. García Harfuch was shot three times. Mexican authorities concluded that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, led by El Mencho, was responsible for the hit. Surviving this attack earned him the nickname “Mexico’s Batman” among Mexicans.

Less than six years later, the law enforcement official led the intelligence-based operation to find El Mencho. Eliminating the leader of the cartel led to widespread violence across the country by members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The unrest made international headlines as tourists captured the violence on social media.

García Harfuch’s time as Security Minister has made him the top presidential prospect for Mexico in 2030.
