Demi Lovato Opened Up To Her Former ‘Sonny With A Chance’ Castmembers About Her Eating Disorder At The Time
Time spent at home in isolation during the current coronavirus pandemic has led a lot of us to connect with friends old and new on apps like Facetime and Zoom. This has been true for celebrities as well, who have been using video calls to have virtual reunions with old cast members. A few weeks ago it was the cast of High School Musical and Victorias. Last week it was the beloved Spy Kids. Now it’s the cast of Sonny With A Chance.
The Sonny With A Chance reunion saw the shows former stars including Demi Lovato, Tiffany Thornton, and Allisyn Ashley Arm reunited.
Former cast members Matthew Scott Montgomery, Audrey Whitby, Sterling Knight, Doug Brochu, Shayne Topp, and Damien Haas also joined in on the fun and to reminisce about their old days on set. It was during this time that Lovato, thanked her former Disney Channel co-stars for their support and love while she was on the show.
At one point, Lovato thanks Thornton, who played the part of Sonny’s rival Tawni Hart on the show, for being her “biggest inspiration” after she left the cast.
“When I went away to treatment for the first time, you were my biggest inspiration coming out of it because you dealt with all of those pressures of being a woman on TV,” Demi explained, pointing to their days worrying about how they looked during fittings for the show. “It’s a shame that we wasted any energy on what we wore on set.”
Lovato also admitted during the reunion that she kept her dressing room at extremely warm temperatures because she was “underweight and freezing.”
The implications of Lovato’s words is that she was likely feeling cold and underweight because she was battling an eating disorder. Speaking about the ups and downs she experienced on the show, Lovato admitted that she “wasn’t sleeping and I was so miserable and angry too because I felt like I was being overworked.”
