The Drama That Won’t Quit: Daddy Yankee Sues Ex-Wife for $250M
Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, a.k.a Daddy Yankee, is suing his ex-wife Mireddys González Castellanos and her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos. The Puerto Rican music star is suing the sisters, claiming financial mismanagement that has caused him harm.
Daddy Yankee filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife and her sister for $250 million
Daddy Yankee’s lawyers filed a new lawsuit against Mireddys and Ayeicha. He is alleging irregularities and negligent management of El Cartel Records, Inc. and Los Cangris, Inc. According to legal documents, the sisters had full control of the two companies and used it to enrich themselves financially.
Daddy Yankee’s legal team brought allegations of financial misdeeds against Mireddys and Ayechia during the divorce. Daddy Yankee’s lawyers argued that Mireddys and Ayechia wired $100 million to their bank accounts while running the companies.
The lawsuit asks for $250 million from the co-defendants, citing a violation of fiduciary duties, breach of contract, and damages. The Weekly Journal reports that legal representatives for Daddy Yankee claim the sisters hid or destroyed evidence.
“In the appeal, it is stated that they hid information, destroyed evidence, squandered resources, and failed to comply with existing tax duties, among other fiduciary violations and claimed acts,” reads a press release, according to The Weekly Journal.
The press release also states that the sisters “did not establish an orderly and reliable administration and accounting system, did not keep a record of the income generated by the artist’s work, such as that produced by the last concert tour, stopped collecting thousands of dollars in expired checks, hid documentation of around four years and disappeared emails of relevant communications, among other elements and acts.”
Raphy Pina is named in the lawsuit
Daddy Yankee’s legal team claimed that Mireddys gave Pina control to sell the reggaeton artist’s music catalog. According to Telemundo Puerto Rico, the lawsuit states that it put Daddy Yankee’s interests at risk.
Furthermore, the lawsuit questions payments totaling $27 million to Pina’s company. The lawsuit claims that Mr. Soldout paid himself for expenses related to the “La Ultima Vuelta” tour. Pina also collected 30 percent of the revenue from the tour despite being in prison at the time.
“When you have hatred in your heart, you cannot have God in your life,” Pina posted on social media. “Family is family.”
The lawsuit is a separate issue from the divorce liquidation
Mireddys and Daddy Yankee endured a public and contentious divorce recently. It was during the divorce proceedings that information came forward of alleged financial misdoings.
According to Puerto Rican law, marital assets, including debts, are divided among the couple. The law focuses on what was acquired as a couple and what each person brought into the marriage. After divorce, the marital assets acquired during the marriage are split. Meanwhile, assets brought into the marriage stay with the original owner. This occurs after the divorce is finalized and a new process is initiated to financially separate the two people.
