Conservatives Are Furious That AOC Called Out Rush Limbaugh’s Racist Past

During the State of the Union address, President Donald Trump broke protocol and norms by awarding a “surprise” Presidential Medal of Freedom. Former winners of the award are Ellen DeGeneres, Rosa Parks, Toni Morrison, Isabella Allende, and Gloria and Emilio Estefan. The newest recipient is conservative and extreme radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh is a Conservative radio host who is known to use racist, sexist, and xenophobic language during his shows. He has used his platform to slut-shame women fighting for affordable access to birth control and once referred to a 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton to a dog. During one show, Limbaugh sang a song to perform a racist rant against then-President Barack Obama.

His racist, sexist, and xenophobic rantings are all documented because of his radio show.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” has been nationally syndicated since 1988 and boasts 25 million listeners monthly. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a civilian. Mother Teresa and Rosa Parks are among the honorees of the award.

A lot of people don’t agree that Limbaugh deserves the honor.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is supposed to be reserved for civilians who have made major contributions to society. The contributions can be through the arts, philanthropy, science, etc. Many are wondering what Limbaugh has done to further society in a positive way. In a clip from “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” Limbaugh is seen making fun of Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease.

Conservatives and Limbaugh fans are most upset with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s take on the medal.

It was recently revealed to the public that Limbaugh was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Many of the AOC critics have held tight to this fact when attacked the Congresswoman.

Some have gone strong against the New York Congresswoman.

Conservatives on Twitter are up in arms about AOC calling out a man’s racist, sexist, and xenophobic past. They aren’t mad that the man said and did those things, just that a Latina Congresswoman reminded people of those comments. Think about that.

AOC Has Strong Words About The Trump Administration’s Response To The COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis

@CNNSotu / Twitter

The Trump administration’s COVID-19 response has left a lot to be desired by health experts, scientists, and politicians. Many believe that President Donald Trump fumbled the response at the beginning of the pandemic, leading to the current crisis. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one person demanding more action from the federal government.

AOC was a guest on Jake Tapper’s “State of the Union” and the topic was COVID-19.

AOC’s hometown is experiencing the worst spread of COVID-19 infections than any other city in the U.S. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo addresses the press every morning offering updates on how the virus is spreading through New York state in comparison to the U.S.

Gov. Cuomo has echoed the same warnings from health experts on the need for social distancing and self-isolation to flatten the curve. The fear right now is that hospitals will be overrun with cases in the coming weeks. By social distancing and self-isolating, health experts predict that the U.S. would be able to flatten the curve and alleviate some of the stress that will be placed on the U.S. healthcare system.

AOC’s argument of the Trump administration not doing enough is being heard across the medical industry.

“I have several major hospitals in my district from Jacobi Medical Center to Elmhurst Hospital, New York-Presbyterian, and one of the things that we are hearing over and over again from hospitals again is this point on personal protective equipment,” AOC says. “There are not enough face masks, gloves, ventilators, [and] hospital beds to get us through this. Many hospitals are already at capacity or are approaching capacity and there is kind of no real stream insight from the federal government on where these materials are coming from.”

AOC added: “Companies are donating what they can. That is great. It is not enough. The fact that the president has not really invoked the Defense Production Act for the purpose of emergency manufacturing is going to cost lives.”

AOC continued in calling out the Trump administration and how it downplayed the very serious risk at the beginning of the outbreak.

“It is absolutely needed. We are thankful to anyone who is pitching in on this effort, but we are nowhere near the bed and the capacity that we need in this country. We’re hearing it every step of the way with this administration. First, we were hearing that it’s a hoax. Then we were hearing that everything was fine. Then we were hearing that the fundamentals of the economy were okay until the crash comes,” AOC says. “We cannot wait until people start really dying in large numbers to start production, especially if more complicated equipment like ventilators and hospital beds. We need to start this production right now to get ready for the surge that is coming in two to three weeks.”

Health experts have criticized the president for downplaying the true dangers of the virus at the beginning of the U.S. outbreak. Trump has faced renewed criticism for wanting to open the U.S. for business by April 12. Experts claim that opening the country for business that early could lead to more deaths and an increased infection rate.

Remember, the best things you can do is work from home if possible, practice social distancing when in public, and washing your hands. This can prevent the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve.

Good o’l reliable Olive Garden, your favorite first date option as a broke highschooler, is getting the heat this week. After news broke that an occurrence of racism occurred at one of its Indiana establishments, patrons of the Italian-inspired franchise have tons of questions.

A manager at an Olive Garden in Evansville, Indiana complied to a racist request by a couple over the weekend, leaving a Black waitress in shock.

When a white couple chose to dine at the Olive Garden in Evansville, Indiana over the weekend, they requested they be served by a white person only. Instead of standing up for his employees and asking for the pair to leave, the manager complied with the request leaving a hostess and another customer to complain on Instagram.

Now the manager is out of a job.

The incident went viral after being shared by customer Maxwell Robbins  on Facebook.

According to Robbins the white guests refused service from a “colored” server and asked to speak to a manager.

“The manager without hesitation ensures that they will not receive service from a person of color. That couple should’ve been refused service for even asking something like that,” Robbins complained.

Soon after sharing his post, 16-year-old Amira Donahue, a black hostess who had been berated by the white couple also posted a complaint.

According to Newsweek, when one of the white customers asked for hot water and Amira brought it to the table, the customer requested “a server who wasn’t black. The couple then proceeded to talk about her to co-workers and claimed that she was not “family-friendly.” Amira went onto express her disappointment and hurt of not being backed by the restaurants management staff.

In response to the incident, Olive Garden conducted an investigation and issues a statement.

“We have zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind, and the manager involved no longer works for our company,” an Olive Garden spokesperson told TODAY in a statement.
