10 Instagram Fails That Prove Many Peoples’ “Best Lives” Are Fake AF

Instagram is without a doubt, the social media platform we have the most complicated relationship with. Although the photo-sharing platform was created with the intention of connecting people who want to share special moments from their lives, it has recently devolved into the social media that experts are calling most detrimental to our mental health.

The problem with Instagram lies in the images Instagram users present to the world: staged, curated, and–more increasingly–edited beyond recognition. After all, it’s not like the phrase “do it for the ‘Gram” came out of nowhere. People want to present the best versions of themselves to their followers because they know that that’s what racks up the most likes. The problem with many Instagram users’ “best versions” of themselves, however, is that those versions aren’t based in reality. We compiled a list of the worst Instagram fails of 2019 to show to our readers that what you see isn’t always what you get. Check it out below!

1. This person who edited their face, but not their reflection

Ahh, the old “I face-tuned my face within an inch of its life but forgot to edit its reflection” problem. Many a brave solider has fallen victim to this mistake. Many more will follow.

2. When even famous celebs are a victim of Instagram fails

Cardi B’s photoshopping fail proves that even celebrities are insecure about their bodies and feel the need to alter their appearance in pictures. Even someone as beautiful and successful as Cardi B gives in to the pressure to be “perfect” for the public.

3. When one person edits their face, to the detriment of others

Credit: u/em_abdo / Reddit

Look, we all know that pretty much no one looks hot on Christmas morning. We’re always rushed to get out of bed and probably sleep-deprived. It’s unfortunate that a situation least conducive for great photos is the time of year we’re most often in front of the camera. And while most of us resist the urge to face-tune ourselves in the family photo, some people (like the girl on the far left) can’t post a pic without tampering with it. Unfortunately, the end result is jarring and super noticeable.

4. This girl photoshopped a Lamborghini logo on her car’s steering wheel

We give this girl credit for thinking of new and creative ways to flex on Instagram. Pro tip: if you really want people thinking you own a luxury car, go to a fancy car dealership and ask to test drive the newest model. Then, you can take a selfie in the driver’s seat and no one will ever be any wiser (#sarcasm).

5. This guy photo-shopped weights onto his bar, but forgot to add them to the reflection

Here’s another Instagram fail where the reflection tells the real story. This is the type of photoshop fail that totally baffles us. Why lie about how much you can lift? It’s pretty easy to tell how strong someone is by looking at their body!

6. This guy “travels” the world by photo-shopping himself into different locations

Credit: u/princessplastilina / Reddit

If you’re going to photoshop yourself as a world traveler, at least change up your pose once in a while.

7. This guy also “travels” the world, but the fence behind him oddly stays the same…

Credit: u/purple_lamas / Reddit

This guy doesn’t even try to photoshop himself into new locations. Instead, he just changes his location tags and trusts that his followers will believe that he’s jet-setting around the globe. But it doesn’t take a genius to see that he’s sitting in the same location in both “Israel” and “Belarus”.

8. This guy went a little over-board on the teeth-whitening tool

Credit: u/purpleyellowpaint / Reddit

This picture is a prime example of Instagram influencers taking something that looks great in moderation and ramping up the intensity until it’s no longer attractive. Also on that list? Full lips, curvaceous bodies, and smooth skin.

9. This cloud pattern seems to oddly follow this Influencer all over the world

Credit: u/your-missing-mom / Reddit

This picture is an example of how much Instagram has warped the minds of its users. While editing your photos used to be about removing a pimple or fixing red eye, now people feel the need to add perfect, fluffy clouds in their skies to keep up the illusion of a flawless life.

10. This “artist” shows photos of different paintings, but the palette in her hand never changes

Where do we even start with this Instagram fails? To begin with, it seems highly unlikely that a real painter would wear such nice clothes when dealing with paints that could potentially ruin their fabric.

There’s no denying that the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic have touched nearly every corner and industry of the world. Even the fashion industry.

This week it was announced that the Met Gala and the CFDA Award were postponed indefinitely and department stores around the world including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s have shut down. What’s more, individually we’ve all have kind of resided to the world of sweatpants. Wearing comfy clothes and doing no makeup while forced to stay in isolation (which you should absolutely be doing in this time).

Fortunately, a new video challenge is reminding women and men that they don’t have to be descuidada while practicing social distancing.

Black women on Instagram and twitter are the genius and glam minds behind the #DontRushChallenge which uses smart editing tricks to make it look like the women are tossing objects to one another as they transform from stay-at-home comfort to high end looks.

According to HuffPost “the origins for the challenge are currently unknown, but Essence reports that many are popularized by an Instagram account for African beauty influencers.”

Black women from around the globe including South Africa, Nigeria, and other countries are laying down their best at-home fashion shows.

One woman by the name of Ronke Raji, opened up about the trend which she did not originate.

The version above was posted by Raji, who is according to BuzzFeed a 29-year-old content creator in Baltimore. Raji didn’t start the trend but the version she made with her friends is one of the most popular ones posted. In an interview with BuzzFeed, Raji explained that “Basically I had called my friends and I was like hey there’s this challenge I see going around, is this something you’d want to do?” Raji told BuzzFeed the challenge was an opportunity for her and her friends to express themselves, “but also to inspire people, who can see the video and see these ladies are beautiful and think ‘I’m beautiful too.'”

Raji and her click aren’t the only Black women taking part. Plenty are coming together for the #dontrushchallenge videos and they will leave you stunned.

Take for example this challenge featuring Black women in the military.

And this one highlighting Black female doctors.

And this one featuring women of different backgrounds!

Even young Indigenous girls are taking part in the challenge!

And this one for the boys!

iamcardib / Instagram

Cardi B is known for her music and her videos on social media. She has been able to break down issues in our politics as well as defending laborers and sex workers. Now, the rapper is discussing one topic that has everyone talking: the novel coronavirus or COVID-19.

Cardi B is getting nervous about novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Like only Cardi B can, the rapper injected a little bit of humor into this dark and scary time for so many Americans. Schools are being closed. The NBA has suspended the rest of the 2020 season. New York is closing down Broadway after gatherings of 500 people were banned by the governor.

Cardi B addressed the health crisis on Instagram because she often shares her opinions to give a different perspective.

“Government, let me tell y’all m—— f——— something. I don’t know what the f— this coronavirus is about,” Cardi B said in the video. “I don’t understand how this shit was from Wuhan, China now all of a sudden this shit is on our m—— f——— soil. And let me tell y’all something. I’m not even gonna front. A bitch is scared. I’m a little scared, you know what I’m saying. Like, shit got me panicking.”

Cardi B admitted that she might not have taken this viral pandemic seriously enough at the beginning but now “s— is getting real.”

But now, she is getting ready in response to the virus spreading across the U.S. According to the latest numbers, the U.S. currently has more than 1,300 people sick with the novel coronavirus. Thurty-eight people, mainly based in Washington state, have died of COVID-19. The most common demographic to die from the coronavirus are the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, like heart disease and diabetes.

During a second video, Cardi B injects a little bit of her classic style of humor with some rubbing alcohol.

Cardi B speaks on the real effect the coronavirus is having on the stock market and the real impact the virus will have on everyday people.

“Government. Government. Government. You wanna know something. I know s—’s getting real,” Cardi B says in the video. “Once the stock market starts going low, that’s how I know s—’s getting real cause ain’t nothing that white corporate America hates the most than losing m—— f——— money.”

She continued by telling viewers that she just wants to know a basic timetable of what to expect from this disease so she can start stocking up on emergency food. She also says she was considering moving to on of the Caribbean islands but that the disease spreading there is leaving with the option to move to Antarctica.

Health experts are currently working to find a vaccine for COVID-19. However, it is estimated that we are a year and a half away from achieving the vaccine.

The best way to prevent catching the virus is to wash your hands with soap and water for 24 seconds multiple times throughout the day after touching surfaces. It is also beneficial to avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth as that’s one way the virus can take hold.
