Check Out Salma Hayek in the Trailer for ’Black Mirror’s New Season
“Black Mirror” is officially back — and this time with Latino representation. Netflix revealed that the Mexican-American icon Salma Hayek Pinault will be part of the show’s sixth season, which is due in June.
Hayek joined the cast as part of this upcoming Emmy award-winning show’s season’s stellar cast that also features the American actor Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), the American actress Kate Mara (“House of Cards”), and the Canadian actor Michael Cera (“Superbad”).
A long-awaited season
Along with reporting the cast news, Netflix revealed that the series’ sixth season will premiere in June. This comes four years after their latest season, which highlighted the talented work of Miley Cyrus, Andrew Scott, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Now, we can expect the season to get even crazier.
“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” the show’s creator, Charlie Booker, said.
He also says that he went beyond and included elements he had never thought before to use.
“Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes, we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is,” he said. “The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through – but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”
A new challenge for Salma Hayek?
Like past “Black Mirror” seasons, we know to expect dark, dystopian, nail-biting episodes. Netflix’s blog describes the new release as “the most unpredictable season yet.”
There’s no further confirmed information regarding Salma Hayek’s character, however. But as always, we hope it’s not stereotypical and fits her outstanding resume of film credits.
In the latest trailer, we only glimpse Hayek’s work briefly. All she’s heard saying is, “Oh, do you?”
In the meantime, we can see Salma Hayek in her most recent works. The actress came out as Maxandra Mendoza on “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” She’s also set to portray Nina in “Without Blood,” a drama/war film directed and written by Angelina Jolie, currently in post-production.
