Grupo Firme canceled their upcoming show in Sinaloa following a gruesome threat
Grupo Firme shared on social media that they would no longer be performing an upcoming show. A cartel threatened the band in Tijuana, and they announced the canceled show. The message had a chilling effect on the band members. Tijuana residents alerted authorities to a suspicious object on a bridge between Santa Fe and La Gloria, two residential neighborhoods in Tijuana.
In the suspicious green cooler, authorities found a severed human head. Along with the severed human head, authorities found a threat directed at Grupo Firme and anyone associated with the band.
“Grupo Firme, if you play at the Mazatlán Carnival, we will kill you all,” read the threat left with the severed human head. “Remember that you live in Tijuana, and we will kill you all, even the people who set up the lights.”
The band moved quickly to let fans know their decision, made out of safety
The band took to social media to be honest and transparent with fans after they canceled the concert. Responding to the threat, Grupo Firme shared a statement on their Instagram Story, letting fans know the show was off.
“We deeply regret informing you that the presentation of Grupo Firme for this March 1st at the Mazatlán Carnival is canceled,” read the statement. “For Music VIP, the well-being of those who have accompanied us on this path — our family, which is you, our fans — is and will always be the most important thing. We hope to be able to meet again soon to sing, celebrate, and continue making history together.”
The festival and state government have reassured fans that security is in place to protect the remaining musical groups.
Cartels have threatened musicians in Tijuana before forcing more canceled shows
Peso Pluma had to cancel several shows in Mexico in 2023 after a series of threats. The threats, also made by cartels, promised death if Peso Pluma performed. Grupo Firme and Peso Pluma are part of a growing list of Regional Mexican music artists threatened by cartels.
Cartel threats in Tijuana forced Fuerza Regida to cancel a show there in 2023. The cartel followed the same pattern and made the threat via a white cloth banner. The threat warned that Fuerza Regida’s show at Caliente Stadium in Tijuana would be the band’s last. Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación allegedly signed the banner.
