Ice Cube Catches Massive Blowback For Teaming Up With the Trump Campaign; Denies He’s Endorsing Him

Photo by Dave J Hogan/Getty Images

Ice Cube is catching lots of heat for meeting with the Trump campaign to collaborate on policy. According to Ice Cube, he met with the Trump campaign to discuss what he calls a “Contract with Black America“. His 13-point plan proposes a robust overhaul of everything from the banking industry to prison reform.

After meeting with Ice Cube, the Trump campaign adapted the Contract with Black America into what Trump has called his “Platinum Plan”. Trump’s Platinum Plan outlined vague promises of continuing “to seek immediate and generational advancement for Black Americans”. The Platinum Plan proposal also claimed Trump “works every day to advance a fair and just America for the Black Community.”

Ice Cube, for his part, has refuted reports that he approached the Trump campaign specifically. “I didn’t ‘run’ to go work with any campaign. Both campaigns contacted me. Both campaigns wanted to talk to me about the Contract with Black America,” Ice Cube said in an interview with CNN addressing the controversy.

He continued: “[The Biden] campaign said, ‘We love what you have, but let’s really dig into after the election.’ And [the Trump] campaign said ‘We love what you have, do you mind talking to us about it?’ And that’s what I did, so I didn’t ‘run’ to nobody.”

Although Ice Cube says that he would have met with any political party regardless of affiliation in order to get his plan off the ground, critics are still annoyed that he decided to team up with a man who has such a dismal track record with Black Americans.

President Donald Trump has been plagued by accusations of racism throughout his tenure as president as well as before. Not only did he hold a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma (the historical location of a racial massacre) on Juneteenth, but he recently canceled racial sensitivity training, claiming it was “racist”. More recently, Trump has refused to condemn white supremacist organizations like the Proud Boys.

Critics are also expressing concern that the Trump campaign is using Ice Cube as a ploy to entice more Black Americans into voting Republican. These concerns were made more apparent when the President’s son, Eric Trump, tweeted out a photoshopped picture of Ice Cube and 50 Cent sitting side-by-side, both wearing MAGA hats. To his credit, Ice Cube quickly condemned him.

But Ice Cube insists he isn’t endorsing Donald Trump, per se–he’s simply teaming up with whatever political party is more willing to collaborate with him.

“I’m not playing no more of these political games, we’re not part of a team…so I’m going to whoever’s in power and I’m going to speak to them about our problems, specifically,” Ice Cube said in an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

It should be worth noting that Ice Cube recently took to his Instagram page to encourage his followers not to vote “unless you get something out of it”.

Kamala Harris’s Husband Is Quitting His Job to Become America’s First ‘Second Gentleman’

Kamala Harris’s Husband Is Quitting His Job to Become America’s First ‘Second Gentleman’

Kamala Harris made history on Saturday when she was announced to be the first female Vice President Elect in United States history. Not only that, but she is also the first Black and South Asian person to be elected to the office as well. And along with Harris’s victory comes another history-making change. Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, will be the first “Second Gentlemen” ever.

It was also just announced that Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, will be permanently leaving his job at the law firm DLA Piper by Inauguration Day.

He has been on a leave of absence since August, when his wife was announced to be Biden’s running mate.

The Associated Press reports that, while Emhoff is not a lobbyist himself (in fact, he is an entertainment lawyer), DLA Piper has previously lobbied on behalf of its corporate clients. Ethics experts said that the best course of action would be for Emhoff to resign as to not give the appearance of any possible conflicts of interest. And so he did.

Harris and Emhoff first met on a blind date set up by their mutual friend when Harris was still California’s attorney general.

Emhoff told Marie Claire that after their first date, he emailed her: “I really like you.” They married a little over a year later in a low-key courthouse ceremony.

Emhoff has always been candid about the way he approaches the relationships in his life. “My whole life has just been to support the people I love unequivocally, and they support me,” he said. “The whole [marriage] has been based on parity and mutual respect.”

Interestingly enough, Joe Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will be the first First Lady to not give up her full time job. According to reports, Dr. Biden will continue to teach English and Northern Virginia Community College after inauguration day. That means neither presidential offices are being held to the confines of traditional patriarchal gender roles. We love it!

This person couldn’t help but put out a visual representation of history in the making:

We wonder if he’ll be forced to decorate Number One Observatory Circle for Christmas also?

This person pointed out how the “traditional” gender roles that politician’s spouses have played have flipped with Biden and Harris’s spouses.

We love to see it! Here’s to hoping for a First Gentleman next time.

This person made a hilarious joke about the double standards that the spouses of politicians face depending on their gender.

For example, we know that Emhoff will never catch flak for showing off his naked (gasp!) arms in public.

Brazilian President Bolsonaro Distances Himself From Former ‘Friend’ Donald Trump

Things That Matter

Brazilian President Bolsonaro Distances Himself From Former ‘Friend’ Donald Trump

As we previously reported, different world leaders gave very different responses to Biden’s win and Trump’s loss of the recent presidential election.

While Mexican President López Obrador is making headlines for refusing to acknowledge Biden’s victory “until all the legal matters have been resolved,” another Latin American president is grabbing the media’s attention for a recent remark he made.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro surprised everyone by recently telling a group of students that Trump “isn’t the most important person in the world.”

“I’m not the most important person in Brazil, just as Trump isn’t the most important person in the world,” he told a graduating class of police cadets. “No one is more important than God.” This statement raised eyebrows because up until this point, Bolsonaro acted like Trump was, indeed, the most important person in the world.

Throughout his presidency, Bolsonaro has made a public display of his respect and admiration for President trump. In fact he was so complimentary of Trump that the media dubbed him the “Trump of the Tropics”. He went so far as to tell Trump “I love you” at a meeting between the two world leaders in at a United Nations conference in 2019.

The similarities between the two blustering leaders are numerous.

They both practice populist, nationalistic, authoritarian tendencies. They both have placed their children in high-ranking government positions. They both love to use the term “fake news”.

Since Trump’s defeat, Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo has continued to publicly voice his support of Trump. He recently Tweeted out a statement implying that Americans are “naive” and “puppets” of social media conglomerates who are dictating to us what is “real or fake” based on their selfish desires. He also Tweeted out that “disinformation is the weapon of the left.”

But sources close to President Bolsonaro say that he has adopted a “more pragmatic tone” since his advisors told him that Trump wouldn’t be the next President of the United States.

Although Bolsonaro appears to have distanced himself from Trump he, still, reportedly has not congratulated Biden on his win. But nevertheless, he no longer seems to be as head-over-heels with Trump as he did when Trump was at the height of his power. Bolsonaro’s attitude reversal begs the question: if he can forsake his “friend” and role model Donald Trump, we wonder what other former sycophants are next in line to cut ties with the sitting duck president.
