If you haven’t been living under a rock, you probably know that Karol G and Anuel AA were major players in the 2019 Latinx music game. Both artists (as well as Maluma) were listed as the most streamed Latinx artists of the year.

Separately, they have made serious names for themselves. Karol G is killing it as 2019’s most listened-to woman in urbano. “Tusa,” her latest—and possibly most celebrated—song of the year debuted at the top of Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, making history as the first female collaboration to do so. As for Anuel AA? He won Billboard’s 2019 Latin Music Award for New Artist of the Year, though he’s been on the scene since the early aughts and is considered a major pioneer of Latin trap music.

Although both Karol G and Anuel AA are independently famous, they’ve been making headlines together since they first started collaborating late in the summer of 2018, shortly after Anuel AA was released from prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. Their debut came in the form of the straight bop “Culpables,” and though fans everywhere speculated that they must be a thing, the artists insisted for months that they were just close friends. (At the Latin GRAMMYs in November of 2018, Karol G told Billboard: “We have a great friendship. Anuel is all yours, ladies.”)

But have you heard “Culpables?!” Not only is it an absolute jam—it recounts the story of two people who fall in love while they are dating other people (though these other people are also fooling around), and the lyrics (paired with chemistry shared by Karol G and Anuel AA in the music video) seemed to confirm back then that they were, for sure, a couple. But they continued to play with the public, staying silent in the face of rumors and avoiding any real PDA (during their first live performance of “Culpables” in Miami, Anuel went in for a kiss, and Karol seriously dodged him, causing people to think that what she’d said about them being “just friends” must actually be true).

But then it happened—on Anuel AA’s November 26 birthday, the couple made their relationship Instagram official, posting precious messages that (finally!) declared their love to the world.

Since then, they have assumed true power couple status. Three of their collaborative singles topped the charts in 2019: in January, “Culpables” peaked at No. 8; “Secreto” hit No. 4 in April; and “China” debuted at No. 2 in July. When they appeared together at Billboard’s Latin Music Awards in April, the world got their first red-carpet glimpse of them as not just a hyper-successful collaborative pair, but as an official romantic couple. That was also the moment we realized how serious of a couple they were. Because Karol G was wearing something very shiny on a certain finger—a jewel that had started many engagement rumors in the months prior to that awards show.

Although the couple didn’t speak much about their wedding plans last year, Karol G did share some ideas about how she envisioned her big day.

“I think I want something super simple, something natural, something small,” she shared. “To be honest, I haven’t thought about the specific things because I want everything to be super simple and natural as possible.” She added, “In reality, what I want is for people not to stress about how they’re going to look and what they are going to wear. Or by the fact that there might be news outlets around, and we might feel restrained from having a good time.”

Though, of course, the superstar also mentioned some of the most necessary ingredients for a picture-perfect wedding: “I want there to be cakes and pastries all over the place, meats and pastas and sweets,” she said. “So my family, a super DJ and lots of food. And obviously the groom.”

And after an almost year-long engagement, Karol G’s vision will become a reality! Because the power pareja has announced via Instagram that they are definitely getting married in 2020.

An exact date has yet to be shared, but Anuel AA captioned his Instagram post with the words “Este a año hay boda,” so fans everywhere rejoice! According to Entertainment Tonight, Anuel AA also wishes for a simple wedding, just like his wife-to-be.

“As long as I have the beach, we good,” he said. “All the family [there].”

So superfans of the “prince and princess of Latin music” can rest easy (and get excited!) knowing that wedding bells are on the horizon. Let’s hope that their union comes with some more hot releases to top the charts of 2020!
