Candace Valenzuela Is Poised To Become First Afro-Latina Elected To Congress

Candace Valenzuela is the official Democratic nominee for Texas’s 24th Congressional District. After winning the run-off election, Valenzuela is now poised to become the first Afro-Latina elected to Congress.

Candace Valenzuela is the Democratic nominee for Texas’s 24th Congressional District.

Valenzuela is running to represent a suburban district that sits in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. The seat was left empty after Republican Congressman Kenny Marchant gave up the seat. Rep. Marchant gave up the seat after facing two tough campaigns by Jan McDowell in 2016 and 2018. In 2018, Rep. Marchant won by 3 points in 2018, a much smaller victory than his 17 point lead in 2016.

Valenzuela proved that she was a force in the race with her ad “Four Walls.”

During the campaign, Valenzuela released an ad that offered hope to her constituents. Valenzuela got very honest about her childhood facing homelessness with her mother following domestic abuse. According to the campaign ad, Valenzuela grew up learning the true meaning of a home.

Valenzuela joined the school board in her district because of the importance of school in her stability as a child. With her run-off election behind her, Valenzuela will be competing against Beth Van Duyne. The Republican woman is running a campaign calling for local law enforcement to work closely with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in deportations.

Valenzuela has spoken out on the current economy and how she had to navigate it when she left college.

“What happened was that I graduated into the height of the recession. I had this $150,000 degree, but I didn’t have parents that were very well-connected,” Valenzuela told Yahoo News. “Both my mom and dad were enlisted military. I was having a really hard time finding a job that lined up with my experience, and I wasn’t alone. So, I ended up taking a job, and another, and another, because that was the only way I was going to be able to cover my health insurance, which was incredibly expensive. I had a pre-existing condition that made my health insurance even higher.”

Valenzuela is now gearing up for her general election in November with hopes of flipping a Republican seat.

Texas’s 24th Congressional District has been a longheld Republican seat and recent elections show that hold slipping. It is telling that Rep. Marchant retired from his role in the House of Representatives after decades. Best of luck, mija!

No one has proved that blood is thicker better than water more than Donald Trump’s inner circle.

Even within a matter of weeks after his swearing-in ceremony, those who took part in Trump’s chaotically-fought presidential campaign found that they were more expendable than his hair. The Trump Administration has been noted as “record-setting” in its turnover rate by various publications throughout the years after several Trump appointees, including National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price all proved to have had served the shortest tenures in the history of their offices. In fact, according to reports by May 25, 2020, 415 Trump officials had been dismissed or made to resign under the president.

Call it a chip on their shoulders’ or workers scorned, these are the former staffers of President Trump who, for whatever reason, voted for Joe Biden this election year.

FBI director James Comey

“Vote for your country,” former FBI director James Comey wrote in a tweet featuring an image of himself wearing a Biden Harris T-shirt.

Former Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen

“Guess what I did this morning…bright and early?” Cohen shared to Twitter. “#VOTE @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris⁩ #BidenHarris2020 #MeaCulpa #Disloyal.”

Omarosa Manigault Newman, former political aide to Trump.

“Just know that I voted for the graduate of Howard University because I’m a Bison through and through!” Omarosa Manigault Newman said in an interview with Extra referring to Kamala Harris, Joe Biden’s VEEP running mate.

Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Director of Communications.

“.@realDonaldTrump is going to get destroyed,” Scaramucci tweeted after voting.

Miles Taylor, former government official to Trump

“Closing argument: 230,000+ American lives lost. Vote him out,” Taylor said in a tweet.

Alexander Vindman Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council.

“Old news for many…but a year ago my life & my family’s life changed suddenly & irrevocably. This time last year, I appeared before the House Committees investigating @realDonaldTrump ‘s extortion of Ukraine to steal an American election. I did my duty & told the truth,” he tweeted.

Former Homeland Security Official Olivia Troye.

“I always get excited when I vote & today the right to vote meant even more. As a lifelong #Republican-for the 1st time ever in my voting life-#IVoted for a straight #Democratic ticket. Together we can stop @realDonaldTrump from continuing to destroy our country,” she shared in a Tweet.

Talk about eating your own words and endorsements!

AOC Goes Head To Head With Marco Rubio After He Attacked Democratic Socialism

When it comes to rumors, hearsay and false statements Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has proven time and again that she has no tolerance. She also showed that faced with disinformation campaigns being spread by her colleagues in politics, she will do more than just fight back. She’ll serve the truth.

So there’s no surprise that when AOC saw Florida Sen. Marco Rubio spreading falsehoods she was quick to come to the rescue.

Over the weekend, after Florida Sen. Marco Rubio started to get trigger happy on Twitter, AOC stepped in.

On Sunday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio went to Twitter and announced, “Not every Democrat is a socialist. But every socialist is a democrat.” It didn’t take long for Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent member of the Democratic Socialists of America, to clear things up for Rubio on Twitter.

“Curious what you call GOP giving away billions in public funds to Wall St & fossil fuel companies?” she replied to Rubio. “Or what you call YOUR ability to go to Walter Reed hospital & receive socialized healthcare for free? Funny how it’s only ‘socialism’ when others get what y’all give yourselves.”

The Congresswoman went onto comment “(Also, the idea that socialists like Dems… lol).”

It didn’t take long for those with non-Democratic ties to also chime in on Rubio’s tweet.

Green Party presidential nominee Howie Hawkins tweeted that “Marco Rubio is very confused,” he replied. “The only socialists with a path to the White House are me and @AngelaNWalker on the @GreenPartyUS ecosocialist ticket.”

American political strategist and commentator, Ana Navarro-Cárdenas who is also a conservative never-Trumper replied “Not every US Senator from Florida is an embarrassing disappointment. Oh, wait….”

Rubio has made his dislike for Democratic socialism clear for years. In the past, he’s tweeted that “‘Socialism’ is incompatible with America’s founding principles because marxism is the belief that: ‘Persons of & by themselves have no value. An individual has a value only inasmuch as he is the representative of an economic category…outside of that, man has no value.’”

A socialist, in the traditional sense, is an adherent of socialism.

Socialism can be defined as “a system of social organization in which private property and the distribution of income are subject to social control.”

Recently, Business Insider broke down the difference between a ‘socialist’ and a ‘democratic socialist’ and the differences are pretty clear.

As the outlet highlights socialism can be defined as “a system of social organization in which private property and the distribution of income are subject to social control… In other words, it’s a state-controlled economy in which the state controls the means of production (factories, offices, resources, and firms). There are also forms of socialism in which the means of production are controlled and owned by workers.”

On the other hand democratic socialists, like AOC, are committed to democracy.

“Democratic socialists also believe strongly in democracy and democratic principles,” explained. “They are by no means proponents of authoritarian government systems many Americans associate socialism with.”
