An Artist Is Sharing Images Of Frontline Workers Reimagined As Aztec Figures And It’s Pretty Powerful

Jorge Garza has stunned us again.

The Instagram artist first captured our attention with his comic books and horror-related pieces a few years ago and some renderings of some of our favorite celebs in the style of Aztec art. Typically Garza’s Instagram posts highlight pop icons and superheroes but his posts as of late have gone beyond the likes of caped idols and gone for straight-up modern-day heroes: frontline workers.

That’s right, Garza’s latest post highlights essential workers.

Garza’s Aztec posts about frontline workers highlight just about everyone who is being forced to continue to operate in the grave conditions that have come with the current Coronavirus pandemic.

Like this special depiction of a respiratory therapist.

And this post featuring a postal service worker.

If you didn’t already know, US Postal Service workers are risking their lives every day to ship us mail. As of April 1200 cases of coronavirus were reported in the system.

Just look at this frontline grocery store worker.

Apparently you can pick this piece up at Garza’s store as a sticker or art print.

And this stunning piece dedicated to frontline cook workers.

Foodservice providers have been deemed essential workers as well and are showing up every day to work, despite the risks, to feed us.

We just adore this amazing piece about the other heroes feeding America.

Here’s hoping that the grocery store workers reporting to duty receive paid vacation off (at the least) when this is all done. Fortunately, it appears Garza’s latest Aztec pieces are an ongoing work in progress. So stay tuned for more of his work!

The First Presidential Debate Went Off The Rails Fast And The Internet Had Fun With It

President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden had their first presidential debate and things were wild. President Trump spent most of the debate talking over Biden while moderator Chris Wallace did everything in his power to rein in the president. Of course, Americans on social media had a lot to say.

The first presidential debate was a far cry from the presidential debates of the past.

Political pundits have spent the past 24 hours discussing how the presidential debate on Sept. 29 veered far from past norms. The two campaigns had agreed to terms before the debate, including two minutes to respond to question uninterrupted. However, as the moderator, Chris Wallace, eventually said to the nominees, President Trump made quick work of ignoring that rule.

“The country would be better served if we allowed both people to speak with fewer interruptions,” Wallace said to President Trump. “I’m appealing to you, sir, to do it.”

“And him, too?” President Trump retorted.

“Well, frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting,” Wallace corrected the president.

Debate viewers quickly took to social media to comment on the president’s behavior.

President Trump attempted to bulldoze over Biden as he answered questions asked by the moderator. Rather than playing into the argument, Biden either continued his answer while the president interrupted or simply fell silent. There were times when Biden had to request that his time be restored because of the president’s lack of control.

The barrage of questions was highlighted by some as a trigger for people who stutter. Biden has been public about his work as a child to overcome stuttering. A touching video of Biden speaking with a child who stutters went viral recently showing the Democratic nominee’s compassion in a new way.

A lot of people couldn’t help but compare President Trump to a character in Among Us.

Among Us is a space-themed multiplayer online game that has become really popular during the Covid-19 era. It might be a nerdy inside joke considering that the creators of Among Us have attempted to make the game available on consoles but encountered an issue with player communications.

There is already merch (real and not) of Biden’s most memorable line of the night.

During a rant by the president, Biden turned to him and asked, “Will you shut up, man?” The line immediately made it to social media with Americans wanting the president to let Biden speak when given his chance.

Debate viewers are calling for a mute option to silence the mic if a nominee speaks too long.

“The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate,” reads a statement by the Commission on Presidential Debates. “Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues.  The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly.  The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.”

The American people have made their voices heard on social media.

They clearly want better controlled debates. People want to hear the ideas of both nominees, not just one. The election is very consequential for so many different communities. Trump came out the loser of the night as several surveys and polls showed undecided and lean Biden voters into stronger and more likely Biden voters. For some respondents, the most bothersome part was Trump interrupting Biden, especially during Biden’s moment honoring his son, Beau Biden. Beau served in the military and died of a brain tumor in 2015. Joe was responding to reports of President Trump calling military members “losers” and “suckers.”

The TikTok user realized that the pizza delivery man was a good candidate for some help so he decided to do something to help him out. According to CNN, the octogenarian works 30 hours a week delivering pizzas for Papa Johns. The old man delivers the pizzas because he recently came to the realization that he cannot survive solely on his social security wages.

Valdez immediately turned to his followers to help raise the money needed to help the pizza man out.

Valdez knew that he had the kind of followers who would help him makes this man’s life a little easier. So, he turned to his followers and asked them to participate in a Venmo challenge to raise enough month to give this man some help.

And came through they did.

Valdez was able to raise more than $12,000 for the viejito to make sure that he had an easier life. After all, a man in his 80s should not have to work. This is the time that he is supposed to be enjoying his golden years doing what he wants when he wants.

They even included some merch in the gifts.

The shirt is a drawing of the pizza man holding open a pizza box. The words “Hellooo are you looking for some pizza?” are written inside the box. The shirt really excited him because, tbh, we all love to be seen in a drawing. It is so nice and personal.

But that check got him right in the feels.

That amount of money is life changing for anyone, but especially for someone on a very fixed income. Seeing his face when he realizes that the social media star brought him some serious money will make your heart melt. It is one of the most sincere moments on social media. Grab the tissues because you are going to cry.

Valdez is keeping his followers updated and it seems the pizza man is happy, beloved, and super into his shirt.

“This couldn’t have gone any better,” Valdez told KSL about the whole experience. “He needed this. I’m just glad we could help him. We just need to treat people with kindness and respect the way he does. He stole our hearts.”
