During Netflix’s Nuevo en Netflix event, Cuevas explained that the documentary is built around an invaluable collection of footage that Juan Gabriel recorded himself. “We had the fortune of obtaining an invaluable video archive that Juan Gabriel captured from the 70s until his passing,” she said. “This material guided us in constructing the documentary and allowed us to understand who were the people closest to him.”

The first teaser, released on January 30, opens with Juan Gabriel’s voice saying, “Había en mí mucha soledad. Y la soledad la hice mi amiga. Y entonces me puse a cantar.” (There was a lot of loneliness in me. And I made loneliness my friend. And then I started to sing.) The trailer features snippets of personal videos. The footage shows Juan Gabriel in his private moments, as a father and as an artist, navigating a career that transcended generations.
