Rihanna is entering 2020 makeup-free. The Fenty Beauty founder, posted her “first selfie of the year” on Monday night on Instagram, showing off her fresh face and new cornrow braids. Some speculated that the barefaced look is a sign that Rihanna might be entering the skincare game; and there might be some truth behind the rumor.

Rihanna’s fans are hungry for a new album. But instead of new music, the star blessed social media with a different kind of teaser today

Or at least that’s what fans think about her latest post. The Fenty Beauty founder took to Instagram earlier today to post a makeup-free selfie with what appears to be a blemish on her chin. “First selfie of the year doe. #2020,” she wrote. A casual Instagram is always a mysterious move her most passionate fans live to analyze. Does Rihanna’s choice of a casual hoodie mean she’s currently and cozily curating the next Fenty collection drop? Does the subtle sliver of metallic gloss lining her lips foreshadow a new psychedelic Fenty Beauty lip liner?

Fans began speculating on Twitter

Users began theorizing that RiRi’s choice to showcase herself sans makeup—and even proudly promoting an imperfect blemish, meant that she’s teasing trial products for a Fenty-branded skin line. This is Rihanna, people, the hustle never stops.

In typical Rihanna form, when one commenter pointed out the pimple on her cheek, the star replied: “Let her have her shine, PLEASE.”

Some speculated that the barefaced look is a sign that Rihanna might be entering the skincare game.

Some followers were more fascinated with her complexion and began to theorize that a Fenty Beauty skin-care line could soon be on the horizon.

“Rihanna’s putting this pic with a pimple and some months later she will release Fenty Skin and prove how it cleared this pimple. A smart businesswoman, I stan,” one user wrote.

And the rumors might not be as farfetched as you think…

Rihanna wanted us to glow so she gave us Fenty Beauty. She wanted us to look our best while sleeping or lounging around, so she gave us Savage X. Now, Rihanna is making sure we’re all taking care of bodies and skin underneath it all with a “Fenty Skin” line.

Riri trademarked ‘Fenty Skin’ last year.

According to a trademark application submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office’s on March 29, 2019, Rihanna registered “Fenty Skin,” which will cover “medicated and non-medicated skincare, soap, body care, and personal care products (excluding color cosmetics, perfume, and other fragrance-only products), and related accessories such as kits, tools, and applicators.

The new launch could be top of mind for Rihanna; the United States Patent and Trademark Office sent her a notice to re-up the application on December 3.

Who wouldn’t love a Fenty Skin moisturizer to use before applying the Pro Filt’r Foundation and concealer? Page Six reported that the Fenty Skin trademark application has already been approved and will be sent to an attorney for further review, which can take up to three months to complete. But trust, Rihanna has a very patient fanbase.

Rumors about Rihanna’s skincare line surfaced as early as 2017.

A few years back, a fan found a trademark registration for a brand named “House of Fenty.” According to that application, House of Fenty would produce “cosmetics, non medicated skincare preparations, namely creams, lotions, gels, toners, and cleansers.”

We’re still waiting for that album though…

Still, rabid fans seemed more concerned about the album the singer previously confirmed for 2019. One person even lamented, “The fact that the pimple heard the album and we didn’t.”

So, Rihanna’s answer to the post, is confirmation that she knows that popping pimples (though hard to avoid) is a no-no. It’s also a reminder that zits happen to just about everyone. As for a line of Fenty Beauty skin care? Only time will tell.
