Joe Biden Would Love To Have Michelle Obama As His Running Mate
The presidential race is still happening as the country grapples with the coronavirus. Most of the elections conversation is around how people can safely vote and how best to do a nationwide mail-in election. Yet, Joe Biden caught everyone’s attention this week when he mentioned his dream running mate: Michelle Obama.
Joe Biden recently told CBS Pittsburgh that he’d love to have Michelle Obama as his running mate.
“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” Biden told CBS Pittsburgh. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends.”
Biden added: “I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again.”
Biden did tell the news outlet that he and his campaign are just beginning the process of picking a running mate for the 2020 ticket. Biden has become the presumptive nominee after Sen. Sander, the last competitive person in the race, dropped out. Sen. Sanders has since come forward and endorsed Biden.
The news has made some people very excited and hopeful.
Obama was named the most admired woman in a recent Gallup poll. The admiration for the former First Lady no doubt played into the fantasy of Obama joining Biden on the ticket. However, it is not likely to happen as Obama has expressed her disinterest in ever running for political office.
Obama is not interested in running for office and doesn’t want to be the vice president.
Valerie Jarret, a former Barack Obama White House senior adviser, told the New York Post that Michelle Obama is not interested in running for public office. Michelle Obama reportedly has no interest in being on the Democratic ticket for 2020.
“The reason why I’m being so unequivocal is that there just simply has never been a time when she’s expressed an interest in running for office,” Jarrett told the New York Post. “She’s not demurring here. She’s not being hard to get. She doesn’t want the job.”
Some people on social media are trying to point out other women they think are better prepared.
Sen. Kamala Harris was a Democratic presidential candidate during the 2020 primary race. The California senator dropped out of the race before Super Tuesday and used her experience to challenge Biden on his record of voting on race issues.
Democratic Party supporters believe in the power of having Michelle Obama on the ticket, but it is not happening.
Michelle Obama has not been shy about her wish to be out of the political world as much as possible. One of the things that Michelle Obama told Conan O’Brien during a podcast interview is how she misses her anonymity. She went on to say that with the loss of anonymity went her loss of a normal life that would have suited her better for leadership.
“And so I don’t know as much as I would want to, to be in a position of leadership, to kind of know what are you feeling? Because you can’t experience life behind a tinted window in a car,” Michelle Obama told O’Brien.
She added: “Eight years is enough. It is enough. It’s time for new ideas and people who’ve been in the Chipotle line, and people who are struggling in ways that, because of the nature of what we’ve done, we don’t do that anymore. We need fresh, real, clear eyes in this stuff. That’s why we’re investing our time in training the next leaders.”
So if you were hoping Michelle Obama would run to be vice president, know that it just isn’t happening.
