The early aughts were filled with movies and TV shows that shaped us into the people we are today. “Malcolm in the Middle” was one of the shows that made a lasting impression on millennials all over the world. Especially boys with brothers. The show was a cultural touchstone, and the revival announcement has fans excited.

Frankie Muniz is feeding the “Malcolm in the Middle” revival frenzy

Francisco Muniz IV—yes, that’s his full name—starred in the titular role in “Malcolm in the Middle” on January 9, 2000. Now, 25 years later, we are getting true confirmation of the reboot from Muniz himself. The actor of Puerto Rican descent shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he is currently rewatching the series to get ready to tape.

Fans are truly excited to see the family reunite on the screen for the first time in years. The show brought Americans into the lives of a dysfunctional family and their wild antics. As the “bad” family on the block, we watched Lois and Hal try their best to parent their rambunctious boys: Francis, Malcolm, and Dewey.

The news of the revival is really pumping up the fanbase. We are living in the era of reboots, revivals, and sequels. Some have been major flops, and some have been enthusiastic successes. Many people are excited to see the show come back, but some are concerned that the show might not capture the same magic.

Muniz’s post is the latest reminder to fans that a special revival is coming soon

In December 2024, Disney+ officially announced the upcoming “Malcolm in the Middle” revival. The video announcement includes Lois, Hal, and Malcolm to share the news. In true form, Lois and Hal scream for Malcolm. Fans of the show are all too familiar with the sound of Lois and Hal screaming at the boys.

The revival is a limited engagement of four episodes. The show will follow Malcolm and their teenage child as Lois and Hal try to convince him to be there for their 40th wedding anniversary. We can only assume the kind of shenanigans that will ensue. Knowing the family, we can only assume that Malcolm will find himself reverting to his old self while navigating the family dramas and traumas. What will come of Malcolm’s child is yet to be seen. How will they fit into the family dynamic? What stories has Malcolm told them about their grandparents?

While the show is set to start filming this year, we will all have to wait until 2026 to see the famed TV family once again. So far, Muniz is coming back to reprise Malcolm, and Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield will reprise their roles as brothers Francis and Reese, respectively. No “Malcolm in the Middle” revival would be complete without Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, who are back as parents Hal and Lois, respectively.

There is no word on Erik Per Sullivan reprising his role as Dewey, but fans can hope and dream. As for the other characters, we will have to wait and see who else makes an appearance.
