Daddy Yankee, the global music superstar and Big Boss of Reggaeton, will take on a new role. He will be an executive producer for Netflix’s upcoming comedy series “Neon.” The eight episodes show, currently in production in Puerto Rico, will premiere in 2023.

Neon follows the story of three friends from a small town in Florida who moved to Miami in pursuit of their dreams of making it big in the world of reggaeton.

Tyler Dean Flores portrays Santi, a rising reggaeton artist who receives support from his friends Ness (Emma Ferrerira), Felix (Jordan Mendoza), and A&R rep Mia (Courtney Taylor). 

The show aims to capture not only the trio’s larger-than-life aspirations but also the harsh comic realities of attempting to make it in the music industry. In addition to producing, Daddy Yankee will also make a cameo appearance in the series.

Daddy Yankee joins a team of industry veterans

Neon has Shea Serrano as creator and Max Searle as the director. Scooter Braun, James Shin, and Scott Manson will serve as executive producers along with Anne Clements.

Kyle Vinuya and Demi Adejuyigbe co-executive produce, while Jordan Mendoza serves as consulting producer. The team behind the show is an impressive lineup of industry veterans. With Daddy Yankee’s involvement, the series is sure to be a hit.

Daddy Yankee is one of the most influential artists of all time. He has received countless awards throughout his career, including five Latin GRAMMY® Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards, two Latin American Music Awards (including the Icon Award), eight Lo Nuestro Awards, an MTV VMA, and six ASCAP Awards, among others. 

Daddy Yankee has also earned a spot on the Puerto Rican Walk of Fame and the “Presencia Latina” at Harvard University. He is “one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time” and the only Latin Artist with four Spanish-language entries on the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.

A legacy like no other

Née Raymond Ayala, Daddy Yankee also runs and leads his charity “Daddy’s House,” which was commended with Billboard’s Spirit of Hope Award. In 2022, he concluded his music career on the highest note possible with his final album, LEGENDADDY, and farewell tour, LA ÚLTIMA VUELTA (The Last Round). 

According to Pollstar box office reports, the tour sold nearly two million tickets and grossed more than $200 million since last summer, making it the second-highest-grossing tour of 2023’s first quarter.

In 2023, Daddy Yankee made history once again as “Gasolina” became the first song of its genre to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.
