An Employee Accused Taco Bell Of Firing Him For Wearing A BLM Mask And People Are Not Having It

Black Lives Matter is everywhere and that is making some people very uncomfortable. Starbucks faced backlash for telling employees not to wear anything BLM at work and reversed their policy. Taco Bell is the more recent chain to jump on the BLM bandwagon and then one employee alleges he was fired for wearing a BLM mask to work.

Denzel Skinner alleges that he was fired from his job at a Taco Bell for wearing a Black Lives Matter mask.

I’m getting firedfrom my job because i have a black lives matter mask on #TacoBell 3551 Belmont ave pls share

In a Facebook Live video, Skinner is seen talking to his manager, who is outside of his car. She accuses him of bringing politics into the store because of his Black Lives Matter mask. After some back and forth and Skinner refusing to take the mask off, he is fired from the job, according to the video. The video has angered people on social media who are now calling for a boycott of Taco Bell.

The video by Skinner caused #RIPTacoBell to trend on Twitter in support of the man in the video.

People are not in the mood for brands to claim to support BLM but not practice that support. The video by Skinner was enough for people on social media to start calling for a boycott of the fast-food chain.

After some sustained back and forth in the video between Skinner and his manager, the conversation shifts. Skinner accuses his manger of not getting it and she insists that she does. However, according to the manager, it isn’t up to her. It is a company policy that masks and facial coverings have to be “plain.”

Taco Bell is being reminded of their social media flex supporting BLM.

Most major brands showed support for Black Lives Matter when the protests began. It was the first time that such energy was thrown behind the movement and it was welcomed. However, skepticism remains to see if these companies do more than just post in support without taking action to back it up.

A spokesperson with Taco Bell claims to be in contact with the employee.

“We believe Black Lives Matter. We were disappointed to learn about the incident that took place in Youngstown, OH. We take this very seriously; we have been working closely with our franchisee that operates this location to address the issue,” a spokesperson told Fox News. “Our Chief People Officer and Yum!’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer spoke with Denzel last week to apologize and discuss the situation,” they continued. “Our goal is to ensure our policies are inclusive and keep our team members and customers safe.”

The spokesperson continued by stating that the mask in question is not against policy. Instead, the company is working to clarify the wording on the mask policy to avoid a situation like this in the future.

There are recipes popping up online for various Taco Bell dishes for those of you who do not want to go to the chain anymore.

A homemade crunch wrap supreme does sound pretty amazing right now, tbh. Plus, you save the time and gas from driving to Taco Bell every time you want something that is so easy to make at home. Save time, money, and feel good about being able to provide for yourself. That’s winning.

Or, as some people are suggesting, just go get real Mexican food instead.

Taco Bell is technically the result of a white man stealing the recipes of a Mexican immigrant woman and creating an empire. The restaurant where the founder of Taco Bell stole the recipes to create the fast-food chain is still operational in southern California. Definitely worth a visit if you want to have the original taco that created one of the most iconic fast-food chains in the U.S.
