We thought we would never see the day.

Our two favoritas ever, Karol G and Shakira, are finally teaming up to give us the collaboration of our dreams. A song that’s undoubtedly going to be a power anthem to take us from long car rides, to the gym, to just a bit of perreo (or a lot), they’re upcoming track “TGQ” promises to be loba-meets-gatúbela perfection.

Karol G’s new interview with the New York Times just dropped, and it’s full of all kinds of gems. In it, she talks at length about her upcoming fourth album “Mañana Será Bonito, which is set to release on February 24. She wrote 60 songs, whittling it down to 17, confessing the album is a mix of “anger, sadness, bad love,” but also positivity. There’s tons of stuff there about her much-documented breakup with Anuel AA, and the songs are “really open” and honest. So much so, the Medellin-born singer feels a “bit scared.”

That being said, the honesty is a good thing — at least in Karol G’s eyes. She explained, “The album is more Carolina that Karol G… Personal things that I had inside me, I was just letting them go in my lyrics.”

She continued, describing how all her fans are “going to know about a lot of [her] personal life” after listening. In fact, when speaking about her album’s strategy, the “Bichota” singer was straight to the point. “The concept of this album is just me being me.” We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Still, there’s tons of fun to be had throughout “Mañana Será Bonito,” namely all the genre-mixing and unexpected collabs. The album brings in names like Finneas (Billie Eilish’s brother and producer), Romeo Santos, and yes, “La Loba” Shakira herself.

Two Colombian icons like Shakira and Karol G in one same song promises to be a hit — because how could it not be? Titled “TGQ,” it’s safe to say the track is a breakup song, with Karol G explaining it’s about “letting a lot of anger go.”

The “Provenza” singer thought of bringing Shakira into the song when she heard her singing about her separation from ex Piqué. It made Karol G think they might bond over the lyrics, and she was right. She explained, “[Shakira] was like, ‘Oh my God, thank you. Those lyrics are perfectly the way I feel right now.'”

A good amount of studio time later, and “TGQ” was born: a “reggaeton-tingeed minor-key” ballad. The part we’re most excited for? The song is reportedly all about “sisterhood.” Yas.

While this is the collaboration of our dreams, turns out, Karol G has been dreaming of this moment for a while, too. In fact, she told MoluscoTV in April 2021 that she reached out to Shakira to appear on her track “Punto G,” but it “didn’t work out.”

The Colombian star explained that she asked the “Inevitable” singer because, “What is the worst that can happen? That they tell me ‘no?’”

While Shakira ended up rejecting the collab at the time, Karol G did not feel deterred. She said, “If tomorrow I have another song that I feel in my heart is meant to be sung with [Shakira], I will knock on her door again.”

Last year, Karol G explained she was “on the way” to the big leagues, and she was right. “TGQ” isn’t just exciting for us — it’s a career hallmark for her, announced on her birthday, no less. We can’t wait!
