Tupac Shakur was a prolific artist and a social critic who wasn’t afraid to speak up and share his opinion on race relations, police violence, greed, and even feminism. He even criticized Trump himself in an MTV interview in 1992 by saying, “You wanna be successful? You wanna be like Trump? Gimme gimme gimme, push push push push, step step step, crush crush crush. That’s how it all is…” And with the fast-approaching release of his biographical movie All Eyez On Me what better way to honor 2Pac than through social criticism? And who has recently played—and continues to play—a major role in our society? POTUS.
Yeah, we never saw it coming, but Trump is the president. Since before the start of his administration, it’s been quite an emotional roller coaster—with more downs, than ups. And yes, a lot of us don’t like him. I mean, even 2Pac wasn’t a fan. But whether you support him or not, we’re all hoping for the best. So, to help him on his path to “Making America Great Again”—or simply not fuck it up— here is Mr. Makaveli himself.
Here are the 7 Tupac quotes that can teach POTUS a thing or two on how to be a better president:
1. “All I need in this life…is me and my girlfriend.” -Me and My Girlfriend
Ok, so Tupac was actually talking about a gun, but bare with us! It’s the loyalty we’re pointing out here. With the Obama’s love being #MarriageGoals, POTUS has some big shoes to fill. So, when Trump slammed the car door on Melania’s face during the Inauguration, the world began to question his chivalry. Not to mention that Barack and Michelle Obama graciously escorted Melania while Trump walked ahead of them. Regardless of their relationship, we can’t help but ask ourselves what he really thinks of women. After all, he believes it’s ok to grab women by the p****, which leads us to our next piece of advice….
2. “Recollect your thoughts don’t get caught up in the mix.” -Only God Can Judge Me
Grab ‘em by the whaaaat?! Trump should think before he speaks even if it’s just some good old fashioned “locker room banter.” Being POTUS requires some–oh how do we put it–diplomacy. You have to have a level of rhetoric and tact that goes beyond using a 5-letter word for cat. *Hint: it starts with a “P.”
3. “It ain’t easy, that’s my motto.” -It Ain’t Easy
“I thought it would be easier” that’s what Trump said when asked about his new gig as POTUS. Mr. Trump, we know you’ve a lot on your hands, and, trust us, we’re not just saying that because you have freakishly small hands. But being president is, well, not easy. DUUUH! Actually, I think it’s safe to say that NO ONE thinks that. Which raises yet another question, what did he expect it to be like? Did he think he could just tweet and ride round in golf carts all day?
4. “Don’t settle for less – even the genius asks questions.” -Me Against The World
Trump seems to live in the fantasy world when it comes to environmental issues, immigrants, his popularity, and much more. But since he clearly doesn’t have all the answers we strongly suggest–no, beg–that he ask for help!
And, NO, global warming was NOT invented by the Chinese.
5. “It wouldn’t be L.A. without Mexicans.” -To Live And Die in L.A.
Diversity is what makes our country great. Many of Tupac’s lyrics spoke about race relations and treating each other with respect because we’re all human. So it’s time to embrace diversity and give us some love. What do you have to say about that?
6. “You ain’t sh!t without your homeboyz.” -Homeboyz
A lot has been said about Russia’s role in the 2016 election. But maybe Trump wouldn’t be POTUS without his alleged Russian homeboyz. But whether you believe this to be true, or not, we can all agree that Mr. Trump can benefit from surrounding himself with the RIGHT people. But seriously tho. Stay away from Putin.
7. “Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live, and let’s change the way we treat each other.” -Changes
Trump’s presidency is off to a rocky start, but that doesn’t mean he can’t turn things around. His campaign–despite getting him the gig–was a complete train wreck filled with hate. He lashed out against Latinos, the gay community, Muslims, and the list goes on; but now that he’s in the White House it’s time to take things seriously and make some meaningful changes. And no, changing your hairstyle isn’t the kind of change we’re talking about, but it wouldn’t hurt.
8. “…Half our problems can be based on economical greed.”-Close My Eyes
In many of his songs 2Pac talks about greed as the root of all evil, and according to an MTV interview from 1992 he wasn’t a big fan of Donald Trump: “You wanna be successful? You wanna be like Trump? Gimme gimme gimme, push push push push, step step step, crush crush crush. That’s how it all is…” So, Mr. Trump, stop worrying about the green and start governing.
Time to roll out and put this advice to use.
