John Oliver Called Out Herbalife For Targeting Latinos

“Oh, I love the blood of the Latino community… I want to bathe in it!”

When Americans need someone to make sense out of the craziest, most frustrating aspects of American life, they’ve increasingly turned to John Oliver. His show, “Last Week Tonight,” has brilliantly tackled subjects like Brexit, FIFA corruption, and cyber security. Oliver has also focused on Latino issues, such as the Puerto Rican economic crisis, Latino school segregation and Donald Trump’s border wall. Most recently, Oliver zeroed in on “multilevel marketing” companies, which he argues are just your classic (illegal) pyramid schemes. He details how multilevel marketing companies like Herbalife, Amyway and Mary Kay make billions, while their promises of steady income (or ANY income) for distributors almost always falls short.

Oliver also details how Herbalife, one of the biggest and most controversial multi-level marketing companies around, has focused on recruiting Latinos…

He then shows a clip from “Betting On Zero,” a documentary that features several Latino distributors who say they were taken for thousands of dollars. This man says he lost more than $15,000.

And towards the end of the show, Oliver gets a little help from Mexican actor Jaime Camil (“Jane The Virgin”), who does a multilevel marketing-style presentation to get Spanish speaking viewers to share the video.

Yep, that’s why they created two versions of the episode on YouTube: one in English and this one, with Spanish-language subtitles.

These #DejenVivirANoviembre Tweets Are Too Real

@LeidyFlorezz / Twitter

November is here and we all know what that means: brands everywhere are already talking about Christmas. Like, seriously? We have a whole month to enjoy before December and we should recognize November as more than just the month between Halloween and Christmas. Someone on Twitter created the hastag #DejenVivirANoviembre (Let November Live) for a tongue-in-cheek protest over early Christmas decorating. And people ran with it:

This person presented Christmas as a greedy, violent “holiday jacker.”

“He didn’t have personality. Now, you all need act right or else. We need more space,” says a mean Christmas tree holding a gun.

Some people are begging for everyone to wait before they start singing Christmas carols.

“#LetNovemberLive, not yet!!!!! It is the next month!!!!!”

Even your little fur companions are sick of this anti-November nonsense.

Cat: “Hector… Drop the mistletoe and pick up turkey. It’s November, dammit!”

This person wants everyone to keep calm and just let November be.

So much is at stake if we don’t take back November.

Just imagine a world without the best and most underrated month of the year.

It’s like people have completely forgotten that there’s a month between October and December.

“I’ll leave this here and slowly back away.”

It’s cute that you’re so excited to decorate but it can wait until December 1.

How are we supposed to keep the Christmas spirit and decorations feeling fresh for an extra month?!

“My dad sent me the first Christmas decoration on NOVEMBER 3.”

November is more than just a filler month before Christmastime.

“November is the official supporting role of December.”

Unfortunately, some people are just too damn stubborn to admit that November exists and insist on decorating immediately.

Some people just won’t change.
