Surprise! Maluma’s baby is his new album ‘7 Days in Jamaica’ (Listen)

That baby Maluma was teasing on social media is a surprise album. In honor of his birthday today (Jan. 28), the Colombian superstar released his new album 7 Days in Jamaica album and mini-movie.

That Maluma baby is actually an album.

During the past week on Instagram, Maluma was posting photos that made it seem like he was a father to be. The posts included the hashtag #7DJ, which fans are now discovering stands for his album 7 Days in Jamaica. The new 7-track release was inspired by a trip that Maluma took to Jamaica over a year ago.

“Those seven days in Jamaica came at a time when I needed to escape and decompress as I had intensely worked non-stop on my career for seven years and I was questioning if I should even continue doing music,” Maluma said in a statement. “I did a lot of soul-searching there and came back a different person, completely inspired, and having realized that music is not just what I do, it’s part of who I am; how I experience and interpret life.”

There’s also a 7 Days in Jamaica mini-movie to go with the album.

The album also arrives with a mini-movie that was produced in Jamaica and L.A. by 36 Grados, the team behind J Balvin’s vibrant “Mi Gente” video. The seven songs are tied together to tell a story of Maluma falling in love with a Jamaican woman, from when she captivates him in a club to the tender moments they share. By the end, she disappears and Maluma, in a Back to the Future-like moment, shoots his past self to avoid going through that heartbreak again.

On the 7 Days in Jamaica album, Maluma blended that reggaeton sound that made him popular with elements of reggae and dancehall music. He collaborated with Jamaican artists like Ziggy Marley on “Tónika” and Charly Black on “Love.” From the new songs, the standouts are the bubbly bop “La Burbuja” and super sensual “Chocolate.”

Maluma is hosting the Music & Art Meet – Sustainable Exhibition with artist Federico Uribe.

Maluma is also hosting a #7DJ album pop-up in Miami from now until Feb. 28 in Wynwood, Miami. Fans will be able to attend the pop-up during its run, abiding to COVID-19 compliant rules, or they can stream the event online. The album art portrait by Frederico Uribe that’s made up of recycled materials will be auctioned off there. Proceeds will go to environmental non-profits presented by Maluma’s own El Arte de Los Sueños foundation.

Interview: Brazilian Superstar Anitta Talks “Girl From Rio”, Upcoming Album and More

@anitta | Latido Music by mitú

In our exclusive interview here at Latido Music by mitú with Brazilian Pop icon Anitta, the “Girl From Rio” singer talked to us more in detail about her new song which was inspired by “The Girl From Ipanema”, filming the music video, the rumors about a Maluma collab in the works and more.

Watch the full interview below:

The “Girl From Rio” music video pays homage to old cinema, but also celebrates the current vibrant Rio culture

The video is a celebratory homage to the resilient and vibrant culture of her hometown of Rio de Janeiro. Switching from 1950s cinema to today’s diversity in the city. Updating the melody of “The Girl From Ipanema” with a 21st-century twist, Anitta serves up a sassy, trap-beat-infused sexy ode to the ladies of her hometown.

While writing the song, there were rumors in Brazil that Anitta might have another brother from her dad’s side. Turns out, that the rumors were true and Anitta decided to include her half-brother in the music video, which became a family affair.

Anitta also shared on her Twitter how proud she is about this project and the visual direction from Giovanni Blanco and Jeff Selis.

Anitta also talked to us about what it meant for her to win the Best Female Artist award at this year’s Latin American Music Awards, and how for a Girl From Rio like her to break into the Latin music industry is a huge honor.

Anitta has been keeping busy lately promoting “Girl From Rio.”

Just this past Tuesday, Anitta had a beautiful performance from The Goodtime Hotel in Miami for Jimmy Kimmel Live!
