Karol G’s Historic Medellín Concert Was Incredible – Here Are All of Our Favorite Moments

Karol G made one of her dreams come true this past weekend. The “Tusa” singer sold out two nights as a solo female artist in her native Medellín, becoming the first female reggaeton artist to do so.

Karol took the opportunity to show how proud she is about being Colombian, shared the stage with her all-female band and gave the spotlight to local talent like Blessd, Feid, Ryan Castro and more.

Medellín’s hotels were completely sold out for Karol G’s concerts.

Bichota Tour kicked off on October 27 in Denver, and since then Karol has had over 20 concerts across the U.S., including the Miami show where her fall on stage went viral (thankfully no serious injuries happened), and the two sold-out shows in Puerto Rico’s iconic Coliseo, which had an impromptu Anuel AA surprise cameo that was quite literally the talk of the town.

However, the real news is how a girl from Medellín was able to get her entire country to welcome her as the massive global star she has become since starting her career 15 years ago. Karol G is currently on Spotify’s Top 50 Global artists of 2021. Her album KG0516 was the second most-streamed Latin album of the year, and she is Spotify’s Top Latin Female Artist for three years in a row.

Colombian’s love Karol so much, that the entire city was packed with tourists from all over Colombia that traveled to town for a glimpse of La Bichota live. Medellín’s mayor, Daniel Quintero Calle, tweeted that thanks to Karol G’s two sold-out shows at the Atanasio, hotel’s around the city were 95% booked, numbers that Medellín hadn’t seen even prior to the pandemic.

After 15 years in the music industry, Karol G’s dream came true.

Karol knew what this moment meant for her career as she shared an IG Story before taking the stage at Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín December 4. “I don’t know how to explain what I’m feeling today,” Karol shared. “I dreamed about my music going global, but it has never stopped being a dream that my people feel proud of who I am. I’ll be on that stage with my heart in my hand, 40,000 people in my home before my eyes. I love you Colombia, being born here is the best thing that’s ever happened to me!!”.

A little over a decade ago, Karol G was starting her music career in her hometown of Medellín. It was also 15 years ago that La Bichota attended Daddy Yankee’s show at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium and told her dad that she dreamed about having her own show there. Luckily for her, the dream came true. Karol’s name can now go in the history books of the Atanasio alongside Madonna and Beyoncé, the only two other female singers that have had sold-out shows at the iconic stadium.

During the concert, she addressed the crowd in Medellín on December 4: “The tour was the best. Very cool, but from day one I’ve been waiting for this day.”

Karol G performed her hits “Bichota,” “Tusa” and more fan-favorites.

Kicking off the show with “SEJODIOTO,” Karol G performed many of her biggest hits like “Ay Dios Mío,” “Secreto,” “Bichota” and more. During the concert, Karol moved from the main stage to a tower towards the opposite side of the stadium to perform the fan-favorite “Ocean.”

Before performing breakup song “A Ella,” Karol alluded to her relationship with Anuel AA on stage: “Sometimes we hold on to the past too much because it was happy, because it was a good time, because there was a lot of chemistry, right? But when that ends, that ends. You have to let it go, right? The best part of letting go is you realize the best is yet to come,” she said.

Sharing the spotlight with local Colombian talent and celebrating women.

Throughout the Bichota Tour, Karol has shared the stage with female band members and dancers, sending a message to the audience that women can do it all.

For her two Medellín dates, Karol recruited local talent Blessd, Agudelo888, and Ryan Castro as openers. During the show, she performed with duo Yandar & Yostin, Ryan Castro and Feid new versions of their own songs “Sola Es Mujer,” “Jordan” and “Vacaxiones” sprinkled with Bichota verses.

“When I’m traveling, there’s a song that I sing a lot, it makes me feel very Colombian, and I like to play it. I always said that I wanted to sing it when I was standing here,” Karol shared with the crowd while on stage before performing beloved vallenato song “Tarde Lo Conocí” by the late Patricia Teherán. In true Colombian fashion, Karol asked the crowd to take a shot with her and performed alongside female accordionist María Silena Ovalle, as the Colombian flag was shown across the screen.

La Bichota’s Medellín concerts are proof that with hard work and determination, dreams do come true, and that if you have the support of your people, you can achieve global success. Bichota Tour will continue with dates in Texas, DC, Illinois and Las Vegas.
