‘Selena: The Series’ Finally Has Their Chris Perez And Los Dinos And Fans Are Getting So Excited

‘Selena: The Series’ is coming together and fans are getting more and more good casting news. The Netflix series that dives into Selena Quintanilla’s childhood and early career is slowly but surely rounding out its cast. The show, which will debut at some point in 2020 is getting a dramatic overture, in the sense that every single bit of news related to the show has been drawn out. But we’re not mad. We just wish the series was out already. Here’s the latest development in the show

The cast that will portray Selena’s band, Los Dinos, has been named. Jesse Posey will play Chris Perez.

Jesse Posey, not to be confused with his older brother, actor Tyler Posey, will be Selena’s love interest, Deadline reports. The Santa Clarita, California, native could previously be seen in “Stitchers,” the 2017 TV series. His brother, Tyler, is definitely the more famous of the two. You may have seen him in the series “Teen Wolf” and as J.Lo’s son in “Maid in Manhattan.” So we’re really excited to see what his younger brother will bring to the table as Chris Perez. Those are some big shoes to fill because the love between Chris and Selena was undeniable. Jesse is also a musician, which is perfect for this part.

Julio Macias will play Pete Astudillo, the recognizable member of Los Dinos, who wrote some of Selena’s greatest hits.

Macias can be seen on the T.V. show “On My Block” as well as “S.W.A.T.”

Daniela Estrada will portray Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla. From what we know of Selena’s family (from the Selena movie), Suzette wasn’t exactly thrilled to be the drummer of the band but definitely came through as her own becoming an established musician. Today, Suzette is Selena’s loudest advocate who continues to champion the legacy of her sister.

Suzette is only one of those responsible for approving of the series.

“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history, and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives,” Suzette Quintanilla said a year ago to the Hollywood reporter. “We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”

Other cast members include Hunter Reese Peña, seen in “Morning Ritual” Carlos Alfredo, Jr., from “Mutt and Chopps,” Juan Martinez from “Triple Frontier” and Paul Rodriguez, Jr.

That last name should ring a bell. Paul Rodriguez, Jr. will play Roger Garcia another member of Los Dinos. He is also, in real life, the son of actor Paul Rodriguez and a pro-skater in his own right.

Peña, who will portray Ricky Vela, posted on his Instagram that he was beyond himself at the news that he would be in this new show. “Walked out of the shower this morning to a notification that I was on the news 😜 I’m going to be on @selenanetflix a new @Netflix series about my childhood hero Selena Quintanilla. I will be playing the role of Ricky Vela, her keyboard player, and songwriter for many of her hits. Dreams come true. P.S. This is kinda funny LOL they unknowingly cast my roommate @carlosalfredojr as a band member also 🤣🤣🤣 God has a sense of humor. Glad I didn’t give up.” So awesome!

Just last month, the announcement of all announcements came through that Christian Serratos of “The Walking Dead” would be portraying Selena.

While the news was speculation for weeks, the announcement finally became official when Netflix finally released a Selena: The Series teaser, which showed Serratos as Selena. We were thrilled to finally see the role fulfilled, especially because we knew this pivotal role could make or break the series. After seeing the teaser, including Serratos in Selena’s signature look, we feel she will do an amazing job as the queen of Tejano music.

Other cast members include Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemi Gonzalez, Seidy Lopez, and Madison Taylor Baez.

Chavira, from the ABC show “Desperate Housewives” will play Abraham senior, Selena’s dad, and Chavira, will play Abraham Jr., Selena’s brother.

The Comments in This Photo That Chris Perez Shared of Selena Proves That Her Fandom is Truly Timeless

It’s been 24 years since the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla, died. But, that doesn’t stop fans from continuing to honor the legacy of one of the most influential Latina singers in history. On Saturday, Selena’s widower Chris Pérez took to Facebook to share what looked to be a candid photo of Quintanilla dancing on stage with Los Dinos.

The photo shows La Reina de Tejano dancing on stage in full Selena regalia. Decked out in a sparkling green jumpsuit, her hands are raised in the air, clapping along to the beat of the music. In the background of the photo, Pérez is pictured playing his guitar in his signature 90s hairdo and leather pants.

<iframe src=”https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FChrisPerezMusic%2Fposts%2F2971775186188261%3A0&width=500″ width=”500″ height=”689″ style=”border:none;overflow:hidden” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowTransparency=”true” allow=”encrypted-media”></iframe>

This candid snapshot is one of many that fans continue to circulate long after the Latina music superstar has passed.

In an emotional caption, Pérez expressed his gratitude to the Selena fans who keep her memory alive through sharing memories like the aforementioned photo. Under the post, he waxes nostalgic, writing that “sometimes I come across some fan pics and it feels like this all happened a whole other lifetime ago…on a whole other planet”.

He goes on to praise the legion of Selena fans, saying that he is “grateful” to have shared “moments like this with her, the band, and especially her fans who continue to love her and pass that love on down to the younger generations.”

Pérez finished off his post by telling loyal Selena fans that they kick major ass!”

Pérez’s post obviously resonated with fans. The post racked up almost 30,000 likes and, as of Wednesday, has received over 900 comments. Lifelong fans of Selena’s took to the comments section to share memories of growing up listening to Selena. Some even shared pictures of their own children dancing to Selena’s music or celebrating Selena-themed birthday parties.

Pérez and Quintanilla’s relationship was complicated from the start, with Selena’s father Abraham famously disapproving of her choice in a boyfriend. Abraham believed that Chris’s bad-boy, hard rock image had the potential to damage Selena’s squeaky-clean image. He even kicked Pérez off of the Selena y Los Dinos tour bus when he found out they were secretly dating.

The comment section is full of people sharing touching stories about Selena, and the memories they made and continue to make thanks to her.

All the love in the comments section was further proof that the admiration for Selena Quintanilla is trans-generational. Fans shared all of the powerful ways Selena’s music has touched their lives. One fan wrote, “My younger Daughters requested on Thanksgiving to listen to Selena with their Dad. He played ‘I Could Fall In Love’ and ‘Dreaming Of You’ and they said, ‘I love Selena so much!’. And their Dad said, ‘Daddy does, too! If it wasn’t for Mommy, [we] wouldn’t know of or love Selena, we know of her because Mommy loves her.’”.

This isn’t the first time Chris Pérez has expressed his gratitude for Selena fans. In 2012, he published a book titled “To Selena With Love” that detailed “the touching and sometimes painful memories of their very private bond”. In the book, he wrote that he “knew on some level how popular Selena was, of course, but when she passed away, the outpour of love and support [they] got from the fans stunned [him]”. In “To Selena”, he wrote “Her fans have continued to keep Selena’s memory alive and I am grateful to them for that.”

Selena fans have never been shy about expressing their admiration for the strong and passionate relationship Chriz Pérez and Selena Quintanilla had.

You could even say there are two Selena fan groups: one for her music and another for her relationship with her husband.

This fan has some thoughts about Pérez’s undying devotion to his late wife:

It’s true that his actions over the years prove that there will always be a place in his heart for Selena.

This Selena fan knows what she wants when it comes to #boyfriendgoals.

Girl, same.

This fan is dedicated enough to have looked at both of their astrology charts.

Further proof that their love was written in the stars.

This Latina can’t contain her emotions over the story of these star-crossed lovers.

At least we know that Selena’s memory will always live on in her music as well as the hearts of her fans.

A California Mom Is Recreating Iconic Album Covers Using Her Children And They Are Incredible

Creating a family is one of life’s most beautiful aspects of being human. Part of raising children is passing down important family traditions and also instilling critical aspects of life that perhaps we didn’t get ourselves as kids. We create little versions of ourselves by sharing with them our taste in fashion, giving them our favorite foods, taking them to special places we loved as kids, and also inspiring them our favorite musical artists. That is what makes this story so undeniably special.

Marie Corona’s Instagram is filled with images of her family like most people have. However, what makes her Instagram a little different from the typical mom is that she’s using creative ways to pose as inspirational and influential artists. From the looks of her account, Marie initially just dressed up her daughter Juleanna “Jules” Navarro for fun, but then it all changed when she got a shoutout from one of her favorite music stars.

In 2015, she dressed Jules up as Erykah Badu wearing a headwrap just like her. Badu retweeted the image and a star was born. “It was the most exciting thing to me at the time because I had just seen her live the month prior and, well, the legendary Miss Badu called my daughter cute,” Marie said in an interview with The Houston Chronicle. That image inspired Marie to take her creative skills to another level.

For the past couple of years, Marie has been recreating album covers featuring her daughter. Here’s one of Kanye’s 2010 My “Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Marie told the publication that she didn’t know how to use Photoshop so she improvised and created entirely new sets.

“I got some old cardboard we had at home and painted it red, then taped a painted poster board over that to look like the album cover. I printed out the ‘Parental Advisory’ sign to make it a little more legit,” Marie told The Houston Chronicle. “For the final touch, I got one of my wine glasses and filled that with apple juice and a little food coloring to make it look like wine.”

We must say her DIY mind definitely makes the image stand out a lot more had she just used Photoshop and taken a short cut.

Utter perfection! One of Marie’s followers wrote on Instagram, “Jajajaja omg I didn’t reconocer her I swear you out do yourself every time I love it.”

Of course, she had to do Beyonce.

To incredible females side-by-side. We adore how much Jules is a total sport about the whole thing. But it does leave us wondering if she’s a perfect angel during these photoshoots because we’d love to see some outtakes for sure.

The picture that is getting the most buzz is Marie’s recreation of Selena’s “Amor Prohibido.”

Marie said that the picture earned a “Like” by Selena’s sister, Suzette!

Here are some more amazing album covers.

Here is Jules as Snoh Aalegra in her 2019 album cover for ” Ugh, those feels again.”

Here’s a great one of Amy Whinehouse.

We love that Jules gets the sentiment down so perfectly. She’s a natural in front of the camera and clearly takes direction well from her mom.

“I decided to add another powerful voice with the Amy Winehouse cover. Jules was all for it, as long as ice cream was involved afterwards,” Marie told the publication. Oh, so she bribes her with ice cream. That is our kind of kid.

Now that Marie has her second child, a little boy named Andre, she is getting him into the swing of things just like his big sister.

Not only does it look like Marie has mastered Photoshop, but we can’t wait to see more of little Andre. Marie added that her motivation is not just to get “Likes” on social media, but for her kids to see how much she loves them.

“I hope they look back at these pictures when they’re older and appreciate not only the craziness, but also my love for them, music and Halloween,” she told The Houston Chronicle.
