J.Lo Has Been Nominated For A Golden Globe For Best Supporting Actress For ‘Hustlers’

Jennifer Lopez has been an acting treasure since she portrayed Selena in 1997. Her role in “Hustlers” has received praise since the movie was released earlier this year with a lot of Oscar buzz. Now, it seems more and more likely that J.Lo will get a highly coveted Oscar nomination as other nominations are starting to roll in and she is so excited.

The first award nomination that came in was from the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The Critics’ Choice Awards is presented annually by the American-Canadian Broadcast Film Critics Association. J.Lo is competing in the category against Laura Dern in “Marriage Story,” Scarlett Johansson “Jojo Rabbit,” Florence Pugh “Little Women,” Margot Robbie in “Bombshell,” and Zhao Shuzhen “The Farewell.”

J.Lo really lit up when she was informed that she was nominated for the Golden Globes.

“Hi, guys! I’m just waking up and I just heard that I got nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for a Golden Globe. Oh my God,” J.Lo said in a video shared on social media to her fans. “It’s been 20 years since I was nominated for ‘Selena.’ I just want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this incredible honor. I am humbled and so excited to be recognized for this role as Ramona in ‘Hustlers.’ Thank you so much and I’ll see you at the Globes.”

Of course, the always attentive and supportive AROD was there to shoot his own behind the scenes video of her recording her video.

AROD has been a supporting partner in J.Lo’s career since the two got together. He is there at her concerts backstage to pick her up and give her praise. He has accompanied her to award shows and showered her with love and appreciation for the work she does as an entertainer, mother, partner, and human being. Tbh, AROD is simply the best partner anyone could ask for.

Fans are so excited to see their favorite person getting such incredible honors for her work in “Hustlers.”

“Hustlers,” for those who haven’t seen it, follows a group of women who use drugs and finesse to get money from clients at a popular strip club. The women take things a bit too far and everything starts to unravel and Ramona, the ringleader, tries her best to keep all of the women in check before things get too real.

Fans are showering the singer and actress with love and praise for her nominations.

There’s been a lot of Oscar buzz since the movie was released and the buzz is only getting stronger. J.Lo gave a powerful and compelling performance as a stripper breaking the law to make sure she and her friends are all taken care of financially. It is a story of a group of strippers playing Robin Hood with some of Wall Street’s biggest earners and how it all falls apart.

If the trend continues, it won’t be long until we see J.Lo winning some awards this season.

JLo Is In Hot Water For Her Lyrics In New Song With Maluma After She Calls Herself ‘La Negrita’

One of the few highlights we’ve had amid this unprecedented year of trauma has been the music industry. From Maluma and Cardi B to Bad Bunny’s surprise albums, we’ve been blessed with some of the best songs ever. Plain and simple.

Despite the global pandemic, many singers have managed to stay busy and put out new tracks. Maluma and Jennifer Lopez are no different as the duo are working on music for their upcoming movie project, Marry Me.

However, the one of the tracks from the upcoming film isn’t getting the type of reception that JLo had likely counted on.

Jennifer Lopez is facing criticism for calling herself a “Little Black girl from the Bronx” in her new track with Maluma.

Despite the pandemic putting the breaks on so many aspects of the entertainment industry, Jennifer Lopez has managed to keep herself busy with new projects. One of her most hyped projects has got to be her collaboration with Maluma on the upcoming film, Marry Me.

In anticipation of the film’s release on Valentine’s Day 2021, the pair have released two new tracks that will also be in the movie’s soundtrack. However, the most recently released song, “Lonely,” isn’t getting the attention that neither JLo or Maluma had likely hoped for.

In the lyrics for the song, which JLo sings with Maluma, Lopez sings “yo siempre seré tu negrita del Bronx” (I’ll always be your Black girl from the Bronx). Obviously, that lyric is causing loads of controversy and fans and critics alike are letting Lopez know they’re out OK with it.

Many are taking issue with the lyrics because “Jenny From The Block” has never really claimed or referenced herself as Black in the past. So why now? And why use an outdated term that’s incredible insensitive to the Afro-Latinx community.

Negrita is a questionable Spanish term that should definitely be phased out amid Spanish-speakers.

Many people are taking issue with the lyrics because they include the controversial term negrita, which is really an outdated Spanish-language term that’s often used as a term of endearment to describe people who are dark-skinned.

It’s a common nickname among Spanish-speakers but it should be phased out of the Spanish language as it’s extremely insensitive to Afro-Latinos.

Both fans and critics have called out Lopez on Twitter.

Fans were obviously confused as to why Jennifer would describe herself as ‘Black’.

‘Maybe if she said brown girl she coulda gotten away with it,’ one fan said.  Another commented on social media: ‘This is so insulting as an actual black woman.’

‘I heard the song and I was like “what she just say? Rewind that. cause she definitely not Afro Latina,’ one fan said.

However, many others from the Latina community weighed in to explain that while the translation of ‘negrita’ literally means ‘black girl’, it’s not used in that sense.

‘If your hispanic or latino you know what she means. yes it sounds weird asf the literal translation but that’s not what she means,’ one fan explained.  They continued: ‘As far as I know it’s like a term of endearment for darker complexion within the community. I think she should have not used it being that not everyone would get it and in my opinion her skin isn’t even considered dark. Plus with the times we are in like let’s do better.”

This isn’t the first time the singer has come under fire for insensitive actions around race.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Jennifer Lopez has been called out for appropriating Black culture, but this is the first time that she’s facing such a major backlash.

Jennifer Lopez has proudly claimed her identity as a Puerto Rican woman but she’s never claimed Black ancestry or self-identified as an Afro-Latina – so her use of the term is troubling.

In the 2001 hit remix of “I’m Real” with Ja Rule and Ashanti, JLo sang along to the N-word slur and faced a similar backlash then. She ended up going on The Today Show to claim that the lyrics were written by Ja Rule and were “not meant to be hurtful to anybody.” She went on to say that “for anyone to think or suggest that I’m racist is really absurd and hateful to me.”

Then there was the whole debacle from this year’s Super Bowl halftime show (which feels like a lifetime ago!) when many criticized her and Shakira for performing for a franchise that didn’t support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Hopefully, this incident on JLo’s part will bring with it a discussion about the term negrita and we can finally eliminate it as a ‘playful nickname’ in the Spanish-speaking community.

In Honor of J.Lo Being Nominated for the People’s Icon Award, Here Are Her Most Iconic Moments:

Put your drinks up! J.Lo has broken barriers yet again! Jennifer Lopez will receive the People’s Icon Award at the 2020 People’s Choice Awards. “Jennifer Lopez has an unmatched global appeal and for more than two decades, has given us some of the most iconic, unforgettable performances of all time,” Jen Neal, General Manager of E! News, Live Events & Lifestyle Digital, said in a statement. And we could not agree more, not only has J.Lo given us so many iconic moments in the fashion, film, and music industry, she has opened the door for more representation of the LatinX community in the entertainment industry.

To celebrate, we compiled a list of Jennifer Lopez’s most iconic moments.

1. Selena (1997)

There’s no doubt that the role of Selena became a defining moment of J.Lo’s career. The movie solidified Lopez’s rise to fame and saw her become the first Latina in the United States to earn $1 million for a starring role in a feature film. All while representing one of the most impactful and loved Latina artists. J.Lo’s performance as Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the “Queen of Tejano music” will forever be remembered.

2. Green Versace Dress (2000)

Twenty years have passed since J.Lo appeared at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000 wearing the infamous green Versace dress but to this day it remains one of the most talked about runway moments of all time. Fun fact: Google Images was invented because of the high demand of users wanting to see a picture of Lopez in the dress. Of course, the dress has proven to be more than just a blip in fashion history. In 2019, J.Lo walked in the Versace show wearing a redesigned version of the dress to celebrate the 20th anniversary of it. There’s only one word to describe this: Timeless.

3. The Wedding Planner (2001)

Columbia Pictures

Who doesn’t love rom coms? Especially when Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey play the love interests. Lopez’s dance moves once again prove her talent as a dancer in the tango scene. To date, The Wedding Planner remains a fan favorite among J.Lo’s supporters.

4. “Jenny From the Block”

In 2002, Jennifer Lopez released “Jenny From the Block,” one of her most popular singles, which at one point reached number three on the U.S. BillBoard Hot 100. The song is about how international fame and wealth could not change the girl from the Bronx. The song also ultimately inspired one of J.Lo’s lovingly crafted nicknames.

5. “On the Floor”  music video

As of today, the 2011 music video featuring Pitbull, a.k.a Mr. Worldwide has 1.6 billion views on YouTube. “On the Floor” is the most viewed of J.Lo’s music videos. It is an extravagant and lavish production. The music video shows Lopez as the queen of the club, but also as the talented dancer that she is.

6. J.Lo’s appearance on James Corden Carpool Karaoke in 2016

The highlight of her appearance is when Corden grabbed her phone to text one of her famous contacts which included Cristiano Ronaldo, Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, and Demi Lovato. Corden decided to text Leonardo DiCaprio, asking for suggestions to “cut loose,” he signed the text “J.Lo (you know, from the block).” They got a response back a few minutes later that read: “Tonight boo, boo? Club-wise?” This is for sure was a hilarious and priceless moment. Who has so many famous A-listers in their contacts? The one and only Jenny from the Block.

7. Met Gala (2018)

The 2018 Met Gala had some of the most glamorous looks for its “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” theme. J.Lo totally rocked the theme with a Balmain gown full of gems and a feathered train, this look earned the 7th spot for some of Jennifer Lopez’s most iconic moments.

8. Hustlers (2019)

Youtube/STX Films

J.Lo’s role as Ramona, a leader of a group of women who scam and drug rich men, was a career-best performance, but it did not receive the recognition it deserved. After the Academy Awards released the 2020 nominees, many noticed that Lopez had been snubbed for a Best Supporting Actress nomination. J.Lo’s solo pole dancing scene in Hustlers shows how much dedication and passion she puts into her roles. She took some of her training and skills for the Hustlers movie into her 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

9. Super Bowl Half-time (2020)

The Super Bowl is one of the most extravagant live shows and Jennifer Lopez lived up to the moment. Her performance alongside Shakira is one of the best Super Bowl halftime shows of all time. She proudly wore the Puerto Rican flag as she sang alongside her daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz. J.Lo’s performance was a fun and uplifting celebration of Latinx heritage as she sang alongside Colombian artist, J. Balvin. Also, let’s not forget the #JLoTikTokChallenge that went viral all over TikTok.

10. TikTok with A-Rod
