Becky G Performs Tribute To Selena At San Antonio Concert

It has been 25 years since Selena Quintanilla was killed by her fan club president Yolanda Saldívar. Despite the time we have spent without La Reina of Tejano music on this earth, her fandom and power continue to grow every day. The proof is in the number of covers and tributes to her and Becky G is now one of the artists.

Becky G used part of her concert at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo venue to honor a Texas great: Selena Quintanilla.

The Inglewood singer followed a playbook that many artists have used when playing in Texas but giving Selena a little bit of love. It has become a tradition for artists to do special renditions of Selena’s hits when they are performing at a Texas venue.

The Texas audience was muy excited when Becky G began to sing “Dreamin’ of You.”

Several artists who have passed through Texas have taken a moment in their concert to cover a Selena song. Cardi B, Kacey Musgraves, and Camila Cabello all sang Selena music during their Texas concerts last year and the effort was super appreciated by Texas fans.

Even fans who couldn’t go to the concert are sharing their love and appreciation for the performance.

Legit, Becky G did that in San Antonio. Selena holds a very important place in musical history and even more important place in the hearts of Latino music lovers. She was the first big recognition Latinos had in the music world, especially with her English crossover.

Good job keeping Selena’s legacy alive, Becky G.

It has been 25 years since Selena was killed by her fan club president Yolanda Saldívar. In the 25 years, Selena’s star has continued to grow. She continues to win music awards because of ho much Latinos love her music and what she represented. She recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was immortalized with a wax figure by Madame Tussauds.

It’s been four years since MAC launched its capsule collection inspired by the late Tejano icon, Selena. Now, all of these years later, the bigtime cosmetics company is set to release a second collection, this time sooner than you thought.

The Quintanilla family and MAC announced the second launch of Selena La Reina Collection back in late February.

Translated as Selena the Queen, MAC’s updated collection is setting out to revisit the singer’s legacy.

Speaking to Allure magazine about the launch, Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla explained that the new collection is meant to the side of the singer that didn’t sport the signature red lipstick as she did on stage. “Whenever she was offstage, she had her hair pulled into a low bun and very light on the lip, just being Selena as a person. The red lipstick was definitely performance mode,” Quintanilla explained.

Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla announced the collection’s launch date earlier this week in a statement.

This collection is so special to me because it celebrates Selena’s 25-year legacy, and I wanted the packaging to be fun and memorable. The true inspiration behind the packaging is Selena’s iconic rhinestone bra and really led to the holographic feel for the rest of the collection, so it pulled everything together,” Suzette Quintanilla explained in a statement after revealing that the line will appear on April 21 on maccosmetics.com and in select retailers on April 23!

The new collection is set to include makeup from the original line including the beloved Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipglass.

For Suzette Quintanilla and the rest of her family, the updated collection is a chance to help younger Selena fans connect with the singer. “We’re in a whole new generation, and they’ve embraced her and they talk about her not just as an artist, but as a role model and what she represents to who we are as Latinos. She was an amazing artist, a great role model, a sweet person, and a real person,” Quintanilla told Allure. “People, especially Latinos, can look at her and think ‘she’s me.'”

Selena will always be a legend for Latino music lovers. The Tejano singer gave us English and Spanish songs that continue to rock our worlds. Her music is still played on the radio, in bars, and she always makes it to a few playlists out there. This weekend, people took some time to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the release of the biopic honoring the singer.

Jennifer Lopez came through on #CelebratingSelena with her own video honoring the singer and her chance to play the role.

We’ve all seen the movie more times than we care to count. It was probably one of the most impactful movies in our younger years. It was so wonderful to see our culture represented through Selena. It was a rare moment of fully authentic representation and it is not something we will ever forget.

J.Lo’s tweet hit Selena fans in the feels as they all took time to remember the late singer.

Selena was grace and class personified. Her ability to jump into the mainstream as a Latin singer shows the kind of power she had in the music industry. She broke down barriers for Latina artists who have come after her to lead successful careers, like J.Lo and Shakira.

Who could forget the iconic bustier scene?

You know you quote “busti-caca” way more than you want to admit to. It might just be the most quotable line in the whole movie. Now that most of us are working from home until further notice, it would be a great time to watch one of the most iconic Latino films of all time.

It is still inspiring people to pay tribute to La Reina.

Even 25 years after her death, people are loving her sound and keeping her memory alive through tribute videos and just listening to her music. Selena truly is someone people will never forget. She was recently inducted into the Houston Rodeo’s Star Trail of Fame and continues to be a major figure in Latino American pop culture.

Don’t worry. You can spend any day celebrating Selena because she is one person who is always worth celebrating.
