West Virginia Woman Caught On Camera Telling Mexican Restaurant Workers To Leave Her Country
A video of a white woman in West Virginia telling workers at a Mexican restaurant to speak English is going viral.
A West Virginia woman, identified as Jill in the video, was caught on camera yelling at workers at a Tampico’s Mexican Restaurant in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The woman was caught screaming at Sergio Budar, the manager on duty at the time, that “English is our first language’ and that he needs “to speak English.” She followed it up by shouting for Budar to “get the f-ck out of my country.”
The video of the incident was recorded by one of the employees and posted to Facebook by her mother. Her mother wrote in the caption: “My daughter captured this situation while working. My poor baby was frightened but cannot believe this continues to happen. We should be united as a country but there is much hate. We are all human trying to help each other out. I will pray for this woman to be a better person, but you can only educate the ignorant. First they must listen.”
People have commented on the video question the woman’s reason for going to a Mexican restaurant.
An unidentified man can be seen in the video trying to calm his friend Jill down as she continues her angry rant. During her rant, an unidentified man tried to intervene and told her to leave the restaurant.
Unidentified Man: “If you’re going to be racist, you need to leave.”
Jill: “I’m not racist!”
Unidentified Man: “No. That’s racist. This man takes care of me. You’re going to get out of here if you’re going to talk to him like that.”
Despite Budar telling Jill that he would be paying for the meal so she could leave, Jill continued her rant. At this point in the exchange, Jill stands from her table and tells Budar that she was “raped by illegal aliens” after saying she lived in California for 20 years. After throwing something at Budar, Jill calls the man a rapist while being ushered out of the restaurant by an appalled and apologetic male friend.
This is just another instance of people using the language perpetrated by the Trump administration when encountering people speaking Spanish in public. In Montana, two women were approached by a Border Patrol officer demanding to know their citizenships because they were speaking Spanish. In New York, an attorney threatened to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because restaurant employees were speaking Spanish. In Chicago, a man was charged with a hate crime for verbally assaulting a woman in a park for wearing a Puerto Rican flag shirt.
According to the NAACP, hate crimes have been on the rise in the U.S. since President Trump took office. President Trump famously started his bid for the presidency by calling Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers. Social media has been instrumental in recent years for capturing these moments and shedding light on the rise in hate crimes against minorities across the country.
