After Hearing The Governor Of Puerto Rico Say That It Will Cost 90 Billion Dollars To Bring Puerto Rico Back To Where It Was, Ricky Martin Is Urging Everyone To Help
“Right now Puerto Rico is still struggling and I don’t see clear. I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. That’s why we need to work.”
A week ago, Ricky Martin made an appearance on “The Ellen Show” to discuss how people can help those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Ellen partnered with the cereal brand Cheerios to donate a total of $800,000 to the fundraising campaign Ricky Martin organized for Puerto Rico. After Ricky Martin’s visit on “The Ellen Show,” donations for Martin’s campaign increased from about $200,000 to over $1.8 million.
However, after his visit to Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin admits that there is still much work to be done. “I don’t want to be pessimistic, I just want to be realistic. The images don’t do justice to what really happened in Puerto Rico. It looks like they nuked us,” Ricky Martin adds. Because of this, Ricky Martin has decided to take a second trip to Puerto Rico. He will be flying there on a FedEx plane filled with 120,000 pounds of necessities, which he has been able to purchase with everyone’s donations.
On his first trip to Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin was joined by fellow Boricuas Luis Fonsi, Chayanne and Nicky Jam.
During their time in Puerto Rico, they helped distribute supplies in areas such as San Juan and Loíza. In an Instagram post, Ricky Martin talked about this visit to Puerto Rico and said, “It’s incredibly intense… what Puerto Rico is going through at the moment. It will take a long time for my island to go back the way it was. The governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rosselló said it will cost approximately 90 billion dollars to rebuild the island. We need more help.”
While in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin met with mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, describing her as a “Puerto Rican hero.”
During their meeting, Cruz told Martin, “[Being called a hero] wasn’t just meant for me. It was meant for every Puerto Rican and every person that knows how important it is to touch someone when they are in need.”
