Snoop Dogg Loves Banda So Much That He’s Collaborating With Banda MS On A New Song And We Can’t Cope
The world is obsessed with Latinx culture, and recent music hits won’t let us lie. If you thought reggaeton was the only Latinx genre reaching mainstream audiences, think again. Because the regional Mexican genre of ‘Banda’ is growing pretty fast too. The latest superstar to collaborate with a Banda group is going to be none other than the Long Beach rapper himself; Snoop Dogg.
Snoop Doggy Dog is a big fan of banda and has never been afraid to show it on his IG.
90s rap icon Snoop Dogg has been seen on Instagram casually vibing to Banda music before. He’s shared videos of himself on his social media, listening to music of the likes of Calibre 50, Jenni Rivera and Banda MS. So it should really come as no surprise that his affinity for the genre has brought him to finally seek out a collaboration.
This isn’t the first Snoop X Banda Collab that’s been in the works. But it will be the first one to be released.
Snoop enjoyed listening to Jenni Rivera especially. He was even planning a duet with ‘La Reina de la Banda’ which was unfortunately cancelled due to her sudden death after a tragic airplane accident in 2013.
Snoop confirmed that he will be working on a duet with Banda MS during an interview.
On an interview with a correspondent for Univision’s “El Gordo y La Flaca”, ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ singer confirmed that he will be working on a Duet with Banda MS soon. “Me and Banda MS have talked, we’re gonna go in the studio to make some music. It’s gonna happen soon,” he said to Dave Valadez. The journalist went on to ask if the rapper has any Spanish music on his iPod, “Jenni Rivera,” affirmed Snoop.
Snoop Dogg’s love of banda goes back to his days as a high school student.
Turns out Snoop Dogg’s love of Banda isn’t something recent, nor trend induced. His affinity for the Mexican genre goes back to his high school days. As it turns out, few know that Snoop shared his high school experience with the queen of banda herself; Jenni Rivera —hence the shout out. At one point, they were both students at Long Beach Polythechnic High School, in California.
One twitter user went as far as to affirm that the rapper and the Mexican singer were classmates, and even friends.
“My sister told me that Snoop Dogg and Jenni Rivera went to the same high school and I, because I’m an asshole, didn’t believe her, so I went to investigate and they not only went to the same high school, but Snoop Dogg went to her funeral because they were ‘compas’…” said @thesmallestboy on a viral tweet from 2018.
His love for Mexican music might not come exclusively from his connection to Jenni Rivera, but from his upbringing in Long Beach, California, where he was in touch with Mexican-American communities. Anyway, if there’s one thing we know for sure, is that this collaboration won’t be an artificial and random publicity stunt. It will be a song made by a true fan of the genre, and honestly, we can’t wait for it to happen!
Banda MS is currently on tour, but we hope the collab will release soon.

Banda MS teased the collab to their followers via their instagram page. The band posted a selfie of Alan Ramirez, the band’s vocalist, and Snoop Dogg and captioned it; “Los envidiosos dirán que es Photoshop”, a popular Mexican meme phrase that translates to “Haters will say it’s Photoshop”. The band is currently on tour performing in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Dallas, Texas and Hermosillo. This is probably just the first step in what could be a game-changing move for regional ‘Banda’ music, as many corrido and banda artists are quickly adopting the so-called “trap corrido” fusion style, and taking it to new and exciting places.
