This Shakira Doppelgänger Is Making A Living Off Her Celebrity Look Alike And Shakira Is Fine With It
No, Shakira doesn’t have a secret sister you’ve never heard of. Rebecca Maiellano or Shakibecca is the Grammy-Award winning artist’s “international double.” Much like Connie Peña who performs as Jennifer Lopez’s doppelganger, Shakibecca is one of many celebrity impersonators that is able to make a living by paying tribute to the idols they coincidentally look just like.
However, not all celebrity doubles are living a life of imitation, others like Mayor Allison Madison who went viral as Cardi B’s double, simply share an uncanny resemblance with the star.
Rebecca Maiellano is Shakira’s “international double.”
Venezuelan singer-songwriter Rebecca Maiellano calls herself Shakira’s “international double.” Maiellano puts on a show called Shakibecca Live, and has performed her act on numerous television shows like Univision’s Despierta América. With curly blonde locks, Shakibecca imitates Shakira not just in her manner of dress but also the “La Tortura” singer’s unique voice. The uncanny imitator has garnered her own fanbase of over 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Shakibecca Live is a tribute to her favorite Colombian singer where she performs in front of live audiences with a band and covers Shakira’s greatest hits. If you can make a living honoring your favorite artists and singing some of your favorite songs — that’s not a bad gig at all.
Maiellano got the honor of meeting her idol in Mexico where they looked strikingly similar, even wearing similar tights.
Shakira was flaburgasted whens she saw a video of Shakki doing her thing.
Tbh, this is incredible. Imagine finding someone who looked just like you and was so convincing that you thought it was you. That is some outstanding artistry right there. Kudo to Shakkibecca for being able to make a living out of impersonating Shakira.
Shakira isn’t the only celebrity with a look alike. Jennifer Lopez recently met hers too.
Connie Peña has also successfully built a following around living a life of homage to her favorite Puerto Rican pop star Jennifer Lopez. The enterprising single mom has amassed a following of 70,000 on Instagram and met the future-Oscar-winner over the summer during the “It’s My Party” tour.
“I finally got the opportunity to meet the Ms Jennifer Lopez, the LEGEND, My ICON, and the woman that has motivated me and impacted my life in so many ways! This day changed my life. I had been waiting so very long for this day to come. I’ve never been so nervous in my life! It has been 1 year to date that I announced to the world that I would be doing the first ever tribute to her,” Peña wrote on Instagram.
Peña said that though she had pondered the moment of meeting her fave for years, she was so nervous in her presence not a single question would come out. Who could blame her?
“The only thing I could get out of my mouth was thanking her for being who she is and how much of a motivation she has been to me and how I am working really hard to bring the first tribute show to her in her honor. It was such a blessing to she her reaction and smile at me and the HUG we had given to each other was unforgettable. Hearing her tell me that ‘WE LOOK ALIKE,’ made my heart drop with joy!” Peña continued.
The Mexican and Peruvian mother of two said she didn’t need to go on about why she chose to devote her life to honoring J.Lo because the “I’m Real” singer’s body of work speaks for itself.
Cardi B’s “twin” also went viral this year and just so happens to be mayor of Mound City, Illinois.
“I am Cardi B’s mom,” Mayor Allison Madison joked in a BET interview. The only difference is Madison isn’t an impersonator, she just happens to look like Cardi and went viral because of it. Madison made history when she became the first black mayor and the first woman mayor of Mound City, Illinois.
“If there was anything I would tell Cardi B is that she’s going to look good in 40 years,” Madison, who is 40 years older than the 26-year-old rapper, joked.
Madison made it clear why she is mayor. She praised Cardi B for being honest and authentic about her past struggles and how she overcame them.
“She’s not worried about what people think, what they say. She is who she is,” she said. “I have had a little adversity… men don’t like the fact a woman [is] being over them.”
While on The Breakfast Club, Cardi B tried to front but admitted, “She fake kind of look likes me. I ain’t gonna lie, I might look like her or something.”
