Suzette And A.B. Quintanilla Reunited With Chris Perez And Los Dinos At Selena’s Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremony

Selena Quintanilla’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled tonight in front hundreds of adoring fans, family and friends. The ceremony was held in front of the iconic Capitol Records building in Hollywood, with celebrities Eva Longoria, Edward James Olmos and Adrienne Bailon on hand to witness Quintanilla become the 89th Latino artist to receive a star on the Walk of Fame.

“Growing up, there was no reflection of me anywhere,” said actress Eva Longoria, one of the three speakers at the ceremony, which included Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “She was the face I finally saw that looked like mine,” said Longoria, holding back tears. “She proved that we existed, us Mexican-Americans.”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who addressed the crowd in Spanish and English, echoed Longoria’s remarks about representation. “Selena inspired us because we could see ourselves.”

Suzette Quintanilla spoke briefly, thanking Selena’s band, Los Dinos, as well as filmmaker Gregory Nava, who directed the movie “Selena,” for attending the ceremony. She also thanked her parents, Abraham and Marcella, for supporting their musical careers. “I want to thank my parents, especially my father, for having that vision and being able to guide us throughout our whole career and for teaching us that we can succeed as long as we put in hard work. I hope that sets the example for all of our youth out there.”

Suzette ended with a quote from her sister. “I think Selena said it best, ‘The impossible is possible. The goal isn’t to live forever, but to create something that will.’ And I think tonight is a perfect testament of that.”

Moments later, with the crowd chanting “We love you Selena,” the star was unveiled.

After the ceremony was over, Selena fans weren’t done.

Several fans joined together in an impromptu parade, holding up photos of Selena and singing along to her music as they marched down the streets of Hollywood.

Twenty-two years after her tragic death, it’s clear Selena is still very much alive in the hearts of her fans and family.
