After More Than A Year, Univision Has Finally Released The First Footage From Upcoming Series ‘El Chapo’

Networks have finally learned that the lives of cartel leaders make for good television. Over the last few years, we’ve seen “Narcos” and “La Reina del Sur” receive solid reviews for their gritty, mainstream depictions of real life drug lords. So it came as no surprise when Univision and Netflix announced last year that they were developing a series based on the life of the notorious kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

After more than a year since the announcement, Univision has dropped the first “El Chapo” trailer featuring actual footage.

“El Chapo” makes its debut in April on Univision, but after that the series will be available on Netflix.

However, the 30-second trailer doesn’t reveal who is playing the role of El Chapo.

Little has been said about the cast, but president of Univision’s Story House Camila Jiménez Villa has said that the show will show reveal El Chapo in a very unique light. Villa said:

“This series pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating criminals of our time by combining the world-class reporting and insights from Univision News’ investigative team with an outstanding team of talented storytellers and producers.”

Univision and Netflix aren’t the only media companies to work on an El Chapo story. Last year, The History Channel announced it was developing #Cartel, which is expected to be a thoroughly researched story about the history and impact of Joaquín Guzmán’s life.
