This New Marvel Movie Is Switching It Up On The Superhero Genre With Horror Movie Vibes
“Did you know baby rattle snakes are more dangerous than adult ones?”
Fox and Marvel just released a new trailer for “The New Mutants,” an X-Men spinoff that takes place in what appears to be a horror movie-style insane asylum. Starring Brazilian actress Alice Braga (“Queen of the South” and “I Am Legend”) as a seemingly sinister doctor, the movie also features “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor (“Split”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”) and Henry Zaga (“13 Reasons Why”) who is of Spanish, Brazilian, Italian and Portuguese descent.
On IMDB, the film is titled “X-Men: The New Mutants.” The synopsis reads, “Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.” It’s interesting to see that “X-Men” is absent from the title in the trailer, possibly as an attempt to distance itself from the expectations of the classic franchise. The film appears to be taking a different path with a horror movie feel, vastly different from superhero movies that are heavy on spandex and action scenes. A different tone could be a good move for Marvel, since switching things up worked so well for the Ryan Reynolds hit “Deadpool.”
The film is set for an April 2018 release.
