Up and coming singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez tore up the stage this week on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” playing her silky, sad song “Figures.” The 27-year-old singer of Colombian descent appeared to pour her heart out and received a standing ovation for it. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, this was her first late night performance in the U.S. Reyez brought it, using her unique raspy pipes and powerful lyrics to tell a story we all know too well; a tale of unrequited love and betrayal. Reyez has been working to achieve her musical dreams for some time now, discussing the trials and tribulations of her journey through her songs.

In a recent interview with YouTube page HardKnockTV, Reyez talked about her struggles, including fighting off a producer’s advances, which led to her song “Gatekeeper.”

She also gets into why she chose the name of her album “Kiddo,” and the album’s cover art as well: a picture of her niece with her face covered by a singular red balloon.

In another segment of the interview, she talks about Latinos in popular music, her parents’ influence, and what drives her to make music “con todo pulmón.”

Supportive Latino parents are the best! She also shouts out other up and coming Latinas like Princess Nokia and Kali Uchis.

Her future is looking bright, having also recently been featured on Romeo Santos’ “Un Vuelo A La” from his new album “Golden.”

She’s also tearing up the charts on her own, as Fallon mentioned, with over 30 million streams of her album “Kiddo” worldwide.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for Reyez!
