Laz Alonso Is The Kind Of Person That Is Not Shy About Showing How Much He Loves His Mom
Thanks to “Fast & Furious,” we have been gifted awareness of the iconic Laz Alonso. But no thanks to any of the gossip magazines, there is zero chisme around his personal life. Turns out he’s a man of integrity gaining success in Hollywood, no joke.
As it turns out, the Cuban-American actor has lived multiple lives and climbed to the top of several careers before making it in Hollywood. Today, he uses his platform to forward Afro-Latino visibility on television and in American culture.
You might recognize him as Tsutey in “Avatar.”
Alonso had to become an expert horse handler to work within the technology.
He told Showbiz Junkies, “My character did a lot of horseback riding but you have to be able to control the horse in a very small, limited space, because if the horse gets out of control and goes beyond the space, he’ll break into a million pieces, the computer crashes and we have to wait a half hour.”
Alonso is Afro-Cubano.
In an interview with Hollywood Unlocked, he had to explain how he could be 100 percent Cuban and 100 percent Black, “We get caught up in where the ship dropped us off versus where the ship picked us up.”
Both his parents are Cuban and moved to Washington, where Alonso was born and raised. But still, a niño has to visit his homeland to caption #TBTs with “real kids carry machetes.”
He also takes great pleasure in his mami’s accent.

I would pay money for someone to interview both Alonso and his mother at the same time. Just imagine the playful and adorable chemistry the two would have on camera.
Alonso identifies as “Black first.”
Alonso makes a good point. Being an African man attached to his Latinidad means being attached to the colonial influences that treated his ancestors like slaves.
He told Hollywood Unlocked, “When a cop pulls me over, oh ok, I’m not going to shoot him or beat his *ss because he’s Cuban. I’m Black, and I’m dealing with the same struggle. We all gotta unite and fight for the same struggle.”
Alonso is an Aries.
He was born on March 25, 1974, meaning he’s a fine 44-year-old stud. And single, in case you were wondering.
He worked on Wall Street before BET.
He graduated from Howard University with a BBA in Marketing and eventually became an investment banker at Merrill Lynch on Wall Street.
He’s also a devout Christian and always gives thanks to God first.
Caption: “#TBT me thanking my best friend and lord for the blessing of winning the #naacp #imageawards for leading man in a motion picture. Very proud day.”
He looks great in uniform, tbh.
Caption: “Happy birthday to @iamjamiefoxx whom I also get to #TBT to my first film that went to theaters, #Jarhead. We had to go to bootcamp to get ready for the film, and we slept in tents in the desert in the middle of winter. Not going to say which actor had a fully heated tour bus to sleep in but he looked out and would go get us Popeye’s and feed us when we would be up doing fire watch all night in the cold. We had to always be ready because the drill instructors would ambush us at all hours to keep us on our toes. One of those nights we even got ambushed by Ray Charles himself! ????????????”
Filming “Traffik” made him ‘more sensitive’ to people’s circumstances.
He can’t just shake the educational value of a film that delves into the reality of human trafficking like he could filming “Fast and Furious.” Today, he can’t look at a moving truck without wondering if there might be people inside. ????
He volunteers with The Cinema School in The Bronx.
It’s the only high school in the country that is focused on vocational training in the film industry. Whenever he’s in New York, he mentors the kids and gives them tips for making it in Hollywood.
He’s single and has never been married.
He’s confessed that he wants his own family and is just doing the work to ensure it’s all the right fit. Plus, his #10YearChallenge was hilarious.
He has a strict rule against dating his fellow actresses.
The wrap party… that’s a different story. He told “Hollywood Unlocked” that he doesn’t “sh*t where he eats.” Makes sense.
But his mom is begging for grandkids, like every mami with a child older than 15 years old.
He told Wendy Williams that his mom is unteaching him everything he learned as a kid, “Don’t practice safe sex; just send the kid to me; I’ll raise him. Just get it done, hurry up.” ????
He’s a reality TV junkie.
In a radio interview, Alonso admitted that he lives for reality TV. The genre is basically the modern day telenovela, so we get it.
His favorite food is his tía’s pasteles de guayaba.
Caption: “My aunt Margot teasing me with the homemade fresh pasteles de guayaba (Guava pastries)! She needs to UPS now!”
He has his own line of mojito mixes called Remy Martiny.
Caption: “So last week @jencooperphotocame by the house to taste my new @remymartinv raspberry mojito remix & it turned into a photoshoot lol. If you only heard the non stop jokes that ensued. @remymartin will definitely add laughter to life! #onelifelivethem”
He’s a total “Game of Thrones” nerd.
What do you think of this homemade Halloween costume from 2017? We’re here for it.
He has a dopplegänger in Miami.
Caption: “#TBT to when I met @ryanpress215 aka my twin forever ago in Miami. I kept hearing I had a twin in Philly and I was like yeah whatever, I had been hearing that my whole life about anyone light skinned or had a curly fro, till I met this dude. It was awkward AF cuz for the first time in my life I was like oh snap this can’t be happening, I thought I was 1 of 1! I can’t let @BET see this dude, I had just gotten on. First thing I said to him was aw hell naw, u better never commit a crime or I’ma hunt u down myself! U ain’t about to F*#% my life up! Both our crews laughed, cracked jokes and we been cool ever since. Luckily he’s not a criminal! ???? ????”
You can find his latest performance on Amazon Prime’s “The Boys.”
Prime will release it sometime in 2019, and we can expect to see Alonso playing a vigilante superhero named Mother’s Milk who are here to take down corrupt superheroes.
Laz Alonso’s favorite passion project has been “Black and Latino.”
