Google Just Launched A Super Extensive Archive On Latino Culture
Google has recently made a concerted effort to shine a spotlight on Latino culture. Last year, for National Hispanic Heritage Month, Google featured several historic Latino figures, including Lucha Libre icon El Santo (as a Google Doodle) and Peruvian singer Yma Sumac, as Google Doodles. The year before that, they highlighted the late Gustavo Cerati, frontman of legendary Argentine rock band Soda Stereo.
This year, Google is going all out for National Hispanic Heritage Month with a huge Arts & Culture digital catalog.Google
Even though Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off on September 15, Google is rolling it out now because there’s no time like the present.
According to Forbes, Google partnered up with 50 organizations nationwide to put together “the largest digital collection of U.S. Latino art, culture and history ever curated online.”
Sounds like a big project, right?
Jesús García, Head of Hispanic Communications at Google and YouTube, told Forbes about this massive undertaking: “The Google Arts & Culture: Latino Cultures in the U.S. collection is a labor of love for many Googlers and partner institutions. It was a project that was more than a year in the making and took a small army to help digitize the 2,500 new artworks and curate 69 new exhibits.”
