Gina Rodriguez Stunned Fans At SXSW Saying Hinting That ‘Jane The Virgin’ Is Ending
When “Jane the Virgin” first premiered on Oct. 13, 2014 it broke ground on so many levels. Yes, we had seen Latinos on TV before, and, yes, there were other Latino sitcoms that came before it. But something was different about “Jane the Virgin.” It was refreshingly modern. We had a young Latina in the title role, alongside a slew of talented Latinos, playing well-written characters. But there has been some recent news that will make all fans pretty sad.
During a SXSW panel, Gina Rodriguez implied that “Jane the Virgin” is soon coming to an end.Giphy
On March 11, Rodriguez said that her experience with directing an episode of “Jane the Virgin” on season 4 inspired her to seek out new projects.
“When it came to directing ‘Jane,’ as the star of the show — as a woman, as Latina, I was like, ‘I need to come so correct that I cannot be denied,'” Rodriguez said at a Women To Watch panel in Austin, Texas, according to Variety.
Rodriguez also told the audience that the episode she directed was the “highest-rated of the season.”
That’s when Rodriguez dropped the bomb…Giphy
According to Variety, Rodriguez added that she plans to “do more [directing] next year — in our final season.”
She literally said nothing else about the “final season.” But her words sure took us by surprise.
While it is kind of sad that this show will come to an end, we’re so excited for the next phase in her career!

As we know Rodriguez already has projects lined up. She has a guest role in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” She’s also starring and producing a Netflix romantic comedy called “Someone Great.” And she’s currently in the feature film “Annihilation.”
CW has not confirmed whether or not “Jane the Virgin” is ending, so you never know. Either way, we’re so happy for Rodriguez and grateful this show gave her her big break.
