San Juan Mayor Tells Trump He Has A Big Mouth In Best Burn I’ve Ever Seen At A Political Press Conference

“The situation is still a life or death situation.”

San Juan mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is pissed. She was scheduled to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee on the state of the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, but they canceled the meeting. Speaking to the press with several members of Congress around her, including representatives Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Luis V. Gutiérrez (Il-4), Bennie G. Thompson (MS-2), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Joseph Crowley (NY-14), she revealed the meeting was canceled on her just as she landed in DC.

Calling the federal government’s response to Puerto Rico’s disaster relief “inadequate” and “insufficient,” Cruz took the opportunity to slam President Trump. Citing General Buchanan, the top general in charge of the recovery in Puerto Rico, Cruz told reporters that “despite the statistics, the majority of the people in Puerto Rico do not have drinkable water.” She went on to further say that “while the American people have had a big heart, President Trump has had a big mouth, and he has used it to insult the people of Puerto Rico.”

Her message was loud and clear, and it was: “Mr. Trump do your job.”

Another crisis is unfolding on the island of Puerto Rico, as a severe drought grips the territory and forces the government to take drastic measures. After a series of major earthquakes and hurricanes, Puerto Rico is now suffering through one of its worst droughts in history.

Water is scarce. And the government is implementing rationing measures that will leave hundreds of thousands of residents without regular access to running water.

Gov. Wanda Vazquez has announced a state of emergency as the government begins rationing water.

Puerto Rico is once again in the headlines for an ongoing crisis that is affecting hundreds of thousands of island residents. On Monday, Puerto Rico’s governor declared a state of emergency as a worsening drought creeps across the territory.

Starting July 2, nearly 140,000 customers, including some in the capital of San Juan, will be without water for 24 hours every other day as part of strict rationing measures. Puerto Rico’s utilities company urged people to not excessively stockpile water because it would worsen the situation, and officials asked that everyone use masks and maintain social distancing if they seek water from one of 23 water trucks set up across the island.

“We’re asking people to please use moderation,” said Doriel Pagán, executive director of Puerto Rico’s Water and Sewer Authority, adding that she could not say how long the rationing measures will last.

The order signed also prohibits certain activities in most municipalities including watering gardens during daylight hours, filling pools and using a hose or non-recycled water to wash cars. Those caught face fines ranging from $250 for residents to $2,500 for industries for a first violation.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of last week more than 26% of the island is experiencing a severe drought and another 60% is under a moderate drought. Water rationing measures affecting more than 16,000 clients were imposed this month in some communities in the island’s northeast region.

The island’s access to water is complicated by the fact that many residents rely on a system of reservoirs in Puerto Rico for water. However, due to budget constraints, several have not been dredged for years, leaving sediment to collect and allowing the excess loss of water.

Aside from drought, the island is still recovering from a pair of deadly earthquakes and Hurricane Maria.

Over the last few years, Puerto Rico has suffered a one-two punch that has left much of the island’s infrastructure in shambles. In fact, Vasquez cited the lasting impacts of the December and January earthquakes and the coronavirus pandemic as exacerbating the water crisis.

The current water crisis has threatened the safety and wellbeing of Puerto Ricans. The earthquakes also disproportionately impacted the southern region where the drought is most severe. Vázquez also extended the coronavirus curfew for the whole island, which began in March, for three more weeks, making it the longest continuous curfew in the United States so far.

When it comes to Kelly Anne Conway, it turns out her apples are falling far from the tree.

That’s right, Kellyanne Conway counselor to President Donald Trump, the
“alternative facts” spin doctor, and Republican nutcracker, has a liberal daughter. Claudia Conway is the teenage daughter of the controversial Republican and it turns out that while her mother very well may be a fan of the extremely problematic president with White nationalist ties, she is an ardent Trump critic.

Recently videos and posts shared from Claudia’s TikTok and Instagram posts revealed at least one out of four of Conway’s children isn’t a fan of her mother’s political party.

New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz thrust Claudia into the spotlight earlier this week when she shared a string of videos taken and posed by the teenager which feature her ribbing Trump supporters for their politics. In several posts, Claudia encouraged TikTok followers, which the Times has said clocks in at 16,000, to leave one-star reviews of the president’s businesses. She has also used her pages to make fun of the difficulty of having political opinions different from that of her politically polarized parents.

“Believe it or not you can have your own opinions simply by educating yourself,” Claudia said in one video.

In another TikTok post, Claudia wrote “why do people hate on trump supporters… like why can’t we just respect everyone’s opinions? SIKE nah block me pls and then educate yourself.”

Note: Ivanka Trump DOES follow Claudia on Instagram which means this teen has some cajones.

Claudia has also expressed support for Black Lives Matter protests.

In the bio section of her TikTok account, Claudia writes, “it’s a great day to arrest brett hankison, john mattingly, and myles cosgrove.” The post is a reference to the death of Breonna Taylor who was shot and killed by Louisville, Kentucky police in her own home. According to The Washington Post, Taylor’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the officers. As of today, only Brett Hankison has been fired from the Louisville Metro Police.

Claudia isn’t the first Conway with liberals to cause some trouble for Kellyanne.

Conway’s husband George Conway, whom she married in April 2001, has been vocal about his negative opinions of Donald Trump. Throughout Trump’s presidency, Conway has questioned the president’s mental health, judgment, and intelligence. He has also drawn criticism from the president directly.

In 2019, Trump tweeted about Conway’s marriage to George Conway writing “George Conway, often referred to as Mr. Kellyanne Conway by those who know him, is VERY jealous of his wife’s success & angry that I, with her help, didn’t give him the job he so desperately wanted. I barely know him but just take a look, a stone cold LOSER & husband from hell!”

In a comment to Claudia’s recent post about having different opinions than your parents, one follower wrote “Hello sis welcome to the left,” to which Claudia replied. “Hehe I’ve been here girly.”
