Lawn Mowing Company Issued Racist Business Cards, Now Claims They’re Getting Death Threats

The increasing percentage of Latinos who work in the landscaping and lawn mowing business has become a positive factor for a progressing economy in the United States. However, with the continuing negative rhetoric against Latinos that comes from the Trump Administration, these landscapers and gardeners are now more openly being discriminated against. One company in particular is attempting to stop the domination of Latinos doing yard work.

A Texas-based lawn mowing company is facing backlash after their business card with the quote “Your Alternative to Illegal Lawn Services” went viral.

The card in question went viral on social media and was posted to their Yelp business page. People got upset over the racist tagline and also because it says “Taking back Carrollton — One lawn at a time.”

Mijente — a grassroots organization — urged their followers to leave negative reviews on their Yelp page.

Due to an overwhelming response, Yelp is now reviewing every comment left on the page and will delete any they find is not a truthful review.

The business owner says the picture of the business card is from three years ago and was never meant to be released to the public. Here’s an image of their most recent card.

Jeff Hinkle, the owner of the lawn company, says he and his family have gotten death threats over the old business card.

“Many card samples were made up to determine which wording would be used to let customers know there are legitimate, honest, tax paying lawn services with excellent credentials and verifiable backgrounds,” Hinkle said in a statement to a CBS News affiliate.

However, Mow Masters is also receiving support for their business motto.

While their website is now out of service, and the number on the card is not working, Hinkle did respond to a negative review on Yelp in which he said that he has a son with “brown skin.”

“If you read the entire card, it has to do with Honest American Business [sic] who operate within the law,” Hinkle said, according to The Dallas Observer. Customers want verifiable credentials when hiring. BTW, my wife is Hispanic [deceased] and my son has brown skin.”

He goes on to say: “The race card is over played and doesn’t work anymore. Most people don’t want to hire people who don’t exist on paper.”
