Latino Celebrity Cheating Scandals That Shook Our Faith In True Love

If there is one thing we have learned from telenovelas is that cheating happens. Not only does it happen, it can be intense af. It is one of the most emotionally charged moments in anyone’s life and we’ve seen it tear our favorite celebrities apart.

Here’s a list of Latino celebrities who had serious lapses of judgement while they were involved in long-term relationships.

Joan Sebastian

Did the rugged Latin pop + ranchera singer-songwriter bask in his cheating ways in his 2001 ballad, “Secreto de Amor”? The song does say the person is his secret love. He might have been referring to the woman he cheated with while with his longtime love Maribel Guardia.

Mario Lopez

Before settling down with his current wife and being known as one of Hollywood’s most doting fathers, Mario Lopez had to overcome his playboy image after a hard-partying bachelor weekend. Engaged to Ali Landry at the time, Lopez told Howard Stern on his radio show that he got caught in a poolside photo with another woman in Mexico. Landry called off the wedding just days before they were to exchange vows.

Juanes

Did Juanes have to get on his knees and ask “a Dios le pido” for his wife to forgive him after he became engulfed in a cheating scandal in 2004? Although the Colombian singer never explicitly admitted to having an affair, the couple decided to separate for a brief period. This lead the media and fans to believe it was because Juanes had been unfaithful. The couple reunited and our going strong while raising their beautiful family in Miami.

Shakira and Gerard Pique might have a storybook romance now including two adorable kids, but when they first met, both were in serious relationships with other people. The two met while filming Shakira’s music video for the 2010 World Cup and there was a serious attraction for the both of them.

Daisy Fuentes

Model Daisy Fuentes had been in a decade-long relationship with her boyfriend Matt Goss when they were finally set to be engaged in 2003. After seven years of still being engaged, Fuentes seemed to have gotten the seven-year itch because she cheated on Goss with her ex, pop superstar Luis Miguel.

Kat Von D

Tattoo artist and TV personality Kat Von D was making a name for herself on shows “Miami Ink” and “LA Ink” but then turned into half of one of the most-hated couples in America. People were furious when they found out that Jesse James had cheated on America’s sweetheart, Sandra Bullock, with Kat Von D. Now Kat has moved on from James and recently married Prayers band member Rafael Reyes.

A-Rod

Before A-Rod was being a mood for boyfriends everywhere, he wasn’t meeting the standards of a faithful partner to his first wife. His wife Cynthia Rodriguez cited “emotional abandonment” as well as extra-marital affairs as reasons for divorcing the high-profile baseball player. Ten years later, it seems A-Rod has grown in his emotional maturity in regards to relationship.

Robert Rodriguez

Filmmaker and producer Robert Rodriguez had been in a 16-year relationship with his wife and business partner Elizabeth Avellán. Yet, in 2009, rumors started to pop up that he was having an on-set affair with actress Rose McGowan. The pair split up but continued their professional relationship. As for Rodriguez and McGowan, their relationship fizzled out after dating for two years.

Gabriel Soto

Mexican television actor Gabriel Soto was embroiled in a cheating scandal with actress Marjorie de Sousa after she claimed he was the father of her child. DNA tests proved otherwise but that didn’t mean his relationship with his wife, actress Geraldine Bazán, was not affected as a result. The two actors divorced this year after three separate cheating scandals from Soto shook up their marriage.

Spend any amount of time on the Internet – which let’s be honest, we’re all probably spending too much time these days – and you’re aware that #cancelculture is very much a thing.

Just earlier this week, #CardiBIsOverParty was trending once again on Twitter, as people tried calling her out for things she’s already previously been canceled for and apologized for. And while cancel culture serves a valuable purpose in making sure that those who have made mistakes are held accountable, to some the movement is going too far.

Cancel culture’s latest target is J Balvin. The Colombian artist appeared to throw some shade at Shakira and Twitter was quick to pounce.

J Balvin was “canceled” on Twitter after seemingly shading Shakira during a recent interview.

J Balvin is the latest celeb to fall victim to the “is over party” trend on Twitter, when on Thursday he was the trend across Twitter. Shakira fans came for him hard after it appeared the ‘Mi gente’ singer threw shade at her during an interview with Billboard to discuss collaborating with Maluma on the Black Eyed Peas album.

At one point, the interviewer asks BEP whether they had to be “more flexible” with Maluma or J Balvin, to which will.i.am responds, “I had to be the most flexible with Shakira.”

J Balvin immediately breaks out into a fit of laughter before will.i.am goes on to explain what he meant. “But I learned from her,” he clarifies,  “because the way she does it is like a school.”

He then describes the process by which Shakira operates when working with other artists: “Number one, fix number one like this, here are my notes. And then for number two, I would really like to address this on number two, and then for number three…”

At that point, J Balvin seems to get shady, “And then you go back to one, then go to seven, then go to 10, then go to 20, and then go back to number one. One is the one.”

Everyone chuckled at his remark, but the “Mi Gente” hit-maker continued to laugh long after the others had stopped.

Will.i.am seemed to try and diffuse any tension by going into further detail on his process for creating the album: “The process of this record was being open-minded, being patient, everybody has a different style of working. I produce, I write, I come up with ideas so you have to slow down… This is the first time we collaborated with these many people, these many vocalists, I had to be flexible. I had to be a f**king noodle on this record.’

It’s safe to say that Shakira’s fans weren’t having any of it.

Almost immediately, #JBalvinIsOverParty was trending on Twitter, even in Colombia – home of both J Balvin and Shakira.

One fan fumed: ‘I’m not one to usually jump on a canceling but #JBalvinIsOverParty is so valid. He literally tried to come for Shakira when let’s be real Shakira is the reason Colombia has an international music scene at all and his comments were straight-up sexist. Respect the queen, peasant.’

Although, J Balvin did make a surprise guest appearance alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show, the pair of Colombian superstars have never actually collaborated on a song together. So many were wondering on what authority Balvin was even speaking.

The Colores hitmaker is yet to respond to the fan backlash.

Some on Twitter pointed out the hard work Shakira has put in on behalf of Latino musicians, the glass ceilings she’s had to push through.

Let’s be real: Shakira is one of the biggest names ever in Latino music, punto. There’s no disputing that. She has helped pave the way for so many Latino artists who have come after her. So it’s quite easy to see why Shakira fans were so upset by Balvin’s comments.

Before Maluma and Bad Bunny and J Balvin, there was Shakira. And she’s still one of the biggest names in music, being known around the world. In fact, few musicians can claim such international relevance as the Colombian hitmaker.

Shakira helped make Latino music part of the world’s mainstream culture.

To this date, Shakira is one of the most successful Latina artists in history. She was one of the biggest Latin artists to successfully crossover into the world of English music as well and has gone on to win no less than three Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and six Guinness World Records.

In 2009, Billboard listed her as the Top Female Latin Artist of the Decade. Having sold more than 75 million records worldwide, Shakira remains one of the world’s best-selling music artists. She is ranked as the most-streamed Latin artist on Spotify and became one of only three female artists to have two YouTube videos exceeding two billion views.

So yea, she deserves respect. But what do you think? Does Balvin deserve to be canceled?

It’s been ten years since Shakira released “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” but the gifts for the song keep on giving.

At the time of its release, the song by the Colombian singer-songwriter peaked at number one on record charts of fifteen different countries. Ten years later, Shakira and her fans are celebrating the news on how the “Waka Waka” video just crossed 2.5 billion views on YouTube.

The singer shared the news with her fans on Instagram and Twitter.

The “Magia” singer wrote in a tweet “You guys really are amazing. Thank you!”

Shakira released the beloved song during the inauguration of FIFA World Cup which was held in South Africa in 2010.

At the time, the song was announced as the official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song. Shakira wrote and produced the song with the help of her previous collaborator, American record producer John Hill and the South African Afro-fusion band, Freshlyground. The singer had been inspired by the words “waka waka” used in the song from “Zangaléwa,” a 1986 ballad by a Cameroonian band called Golden Sounds. The song, “Zangaléwa” had been a hit across Africa as well as Colombia.
