After Decades And Thousands Of Dollars, This Couple Got Their Green Cards And We Can’t Stop Celebrating

There is little doubt that it is a terrifying time in the U.S. to be an immigrant, child of immigrants, or even of Latino descent. There have been multiple examples of people using skin color, accent, and language to attack people at random. So, seeing happy moments of people finally getting their green cards after years of waiting is so pure and necessary to keep our sanity.

The pure jubilation in the home when they mom and dad take it all in is something we all need right now. Honestly, seeing this kind of positivity take over Twitter is a refreshing change of pace from the relentless bad news from all over the country.

The Twitter user took advantage of the viral tweet to try to educate some anti-immigrant folks.

One of the most common things people hear when they listen to anti-immigrant people is how people need to do it “legally” as if it is easy. The immigration system in the U.S. is needlessly complex and difficult to maneuver. Some people end up spending decades and tens of thousands of dollars achieving citizenship when there is no reason for the system to take that long.

Some Trump supporters tried to make their arguments but school was in session, kids.

We can feel that burn from over here. Some people aren’t completely knowledgable about the history of the land they are inhabiting.

Meanwhile, other people are sharing stories of their own families becoming citizens.

The story of waiting for more than two decades and spending thousands on legal fees is a common theme. Becoming a citizen of the U.S. needs to be changed. The process is clunky and creates needless delays and costs a lot of money. Yet, attempts to change the immigration process have failed time and time again.

Even after paying taxes regularly and contributing to society, some people remain in immigration limbo.

Not only are people paying legal fees, but the U.S. government is also charging people for a yearly visa, but they are also paying taxes, and there are all kinds of fees added.

Overwhelmingly, people are so relieved for the family that can now live without fear.

One Day After A Texas Sheriff Called Undocumented Immigrants ‘Drunks,’ His Son Is Arrested For Public Intoxication

One Day After A Texas Sheriff Called Undocumented Immigrants ‘Drunks,’ His Son Is Arrested For Public Intoxication

A Texas sheriff is eating his words after his bigotted comments came back to bite him in the worst way.

A day after Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn referred to undocumented immigrants as “drunks” who would “run over” children, his own son was reportedly arrested on charges of public intoxication. It has also been revealed that his son Sergei Waybourn has been arrested before. In 2018 he was charged with assault and in recent years he was arrested for trespassing and theft.

Sheriff Waybourn’s comments sparked controversy when he spoke against undocumented immigrants at a press conference in Washington.

Last Thursday, the sheriff spoke at the conference alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Matthew Albence. Speaking in response to a ruling by a federal California judge made last month that imposed restrictions on ICE’s use of “detainers,” Waybourn underlined the consequences of releasing illegal immigrants with DWI and other crimes.

U.S. District Judge André Birotte Jr.’s decision barred ICE from using online database searches to find and detain people based. Recently, the ACLU stated that since 2008, 2 million US citizens have been illegally detained because of such searches.

Waybourn pointed to his charge of inmates to give examples of high rates of repeat offenders. “If we have to turn them loose or they get released, they’re coming back to your neighborhood and my neighborhood,” Waybourn said according to New York Post. “These drunks will run over your children, and they will run over my children.”

After his comments, the national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens called for Waybourn’s resignation.

According to Dallas Morning News, Domingo Garcia said Waybourn ought to “resign and apologize for his bigoted comments immediately.”

In response, Waybourne said his comments had been taken out of contexts and his office released a statement saying that “Sheriff Waybourn was not referring to all legal or illegal immigrants when making his comments about DWI/DWI repeat offenders. He was speaking toward the charges of DWI and DWI repeat offender in the context of illegal immigration.”

In response to the news of his son’s arrest, the sheriff said he is “deeply saddened by Sergei’s choices.”

According to WFAA, he said that “It has been many years since he disassociated from our family. We, along with many family members have made efforts over the years to help him – all to no avail. It is always sad when drugs take control of a person’s life. His choices and actions have lead to this situation.”

Ellen DeGeneres Defends Her Friendship With George W Bush, Faces Backlash

TV cameras captured a moment at the Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers game, of comedian Ellen DeGeneres sitting next to former President George W. Bush. After footage of the pair exchanging laughs went viral online, users were quick to point out that they didn’t get the joke.

Soon enough, the unlikely pair’s interaction sparked discussion online about tolerance and why DeGeneres no longer seems to be rooting for the home team.

On Sunday, DeGeneres and the former president were seen seated side by side with their wives a private suite and the clip quickly went viral.

At first glance, the interaction might seem… unlikely? After all, DeGeneres is an out and proud married gay liberal who in 2008 married her now-wife Portia de Rossi after the overturn of the same-sex marriage ban in California. Just four years before, during his 2004 reelection campaign, Bush ran on a platform that upheld anti-LGBTQ+ policies and called for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would ban same-sex marriage in the United States.

After users on Twitter were quick to lambast her for spending time with Bush, DeGeneres defended herself and Bush with an argument that truly oversimplified the situation.

“Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?” DeGeneres replied during the opening monologue of her CBS’ series “Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She went on to say, “Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush… In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s OK.”

But what DeGeneres forgets is that few people are aware that people of two different mindsets can be friends. We ALL have family members and friends who hold different beliefs. This year, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner tables across the country will likely, yet again, see more heated debates and arguments about today’s dividing politics with points being made from across both aisles.

Her comments brush over the optics of her interactions. DeGeneres, the most powerful out Lesbian in the country, was seen cozying up to a man who led a staunch effort against gay rights during his time as one of the world’s most powerful leaders and who dragged the U.S. into a war with Iraq and Afghanistan under the belief that they possessed weapons of mass destruction, which was ultimately refuted. The human cost of his “War On Terror” resulted in the deaths of nearly 250,000 citizens in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and his administration approved the torture of hundreds of others. Moreover, he ignored and lacked compassion for the largely Black community of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina when they sorely needed his support. Approved the detainment of over 750 Muslim-Americans after 9/11.

Today, he can be thanked for his contributions to the seating of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during a time in which numerous sexual assault and harassment allegations were brought forward.

DeGeneres’s relationship with Bush might seem generous and tolerant at first glance but dive deeper and you’ll find that it also forgets the various impacts of an extremely powerful person.

Bush’s legacy has been marked by abuse of power and complete incompetence. He was not and is not the uncle at Thanksgiving who spouts off unforgivable racial, anti-LGBT, or misogynist jokes at dinner. He was and is a powerful man who changed the course of our country’s history and those of many others, affected the lives of innocent people, while also simultaneously taking hundreds of those lives away.

DeGeneres is snide and ignorant with her responses to these aspects that not only amount to his character but also our future. After all, as a former president of the United States, Bush remains extremely powerful and further influencing the lives of others as he did recently with his support of Brett Kavanaugh.
