Planning A Visit To Las Vegas? You Might Want To Think Again As The City Is Infested With Swarms Of Grasshoppers

Well, you know what they say: what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. And we hope the swarms of grasshoppers invading Las Vegas don’t cross state lines.

Don’t worry, the swarm of grasshoppers are not a cause for concern nor are they dangerous but it sure looks like our biggest nightmare.

According to entomologists with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the grasshoppers are in the middle of a northern migration, currently sweeping through Southern Nevada. Jeff Knight, an entomologist, said in a news conference on Thursday in Las Vegas, that when they have a wet winter or spring, “these things build up often down below Laughlin and even into Arizona. They’ll move northward, and they’ll often move as far as central Nevada.”

Despite people on social media freaking out about the grasshopper invasion, Knight said they’re not dangerous and aren’t carrying any diseases. Even better news? They don’t bite and won’t cause much damage in a yard.  According to the New York Times, it looks like the grasshoppers descended on Las Vegas last week likely were attracted to the 30-story pyramid Luxor hotel and casino since they’re drawn to ultraviolet light.

While the grasshopper migration is harmless, tourists are also calling it the “Great Grasshopper Invasion of 2019.”

“It was crazy. We didn’t even want to walk through there. Everybody was going crazy,” Diana Rodriguez told CBS affiliate KLAS about the grasshoppers. “We were wondering like what’s going on.”

I mean, imagine minding your own business walking the streets of Las Vegas and then suddenly being met with thousands of swarming grasshoppers? We’d freak out too.

Locals, on the other hand, are pretty used to this by now since it happens every few years. According to USA Today, the state has records that date as far as the early 1960s of grasshopper invasions.

According to CNN, the Las Vegas grasshopper invasion is so huge that you can see it on the weather radar. CNN meteorologist Allison Chinchar said that it looked like there were two storms moving into the Las Vegas area. But one of them wasn’t moving as rain normally would. It turns out that the other storm was actually the storm of grasshoppers making their way into the city.

People’s reactions on Twitter in response to the Las Vegas grasshopper invasion are hilarious.

The grasshopper invasion in Las Vegas is giving us “A Bug’s Life” vibes.

It’s reminding people of the evil grasshoppers from the 1998 film. *shudders*

Others have some conspiracy theories… the grasshoppers are a result of Area 51.

“Las Vegas threatens to invade Area 51, so Area 51 releases a million grasshoppers to freak out the city,” the user wrote. Hmmmm, seems legit. What do you think?

However, people were quick to debunk that theory because what will Area 51 release after the grasshoppers finish their migration? Huh?

She makes good points.

And of course, some people had to somehow make it about politics.

Good one, @SteveYeagerNV.

Twitter users also shared hilarious and relatable gifs. This would literally be us.

The end DOES seem near.

And then things got a little biblical.

“There were many plagues that God sent upon Egypt flies, gnats, frogs and locusts. This is definitely a sign, please repent and seek the Lord Jesus Christ if you haven’t already. It’s no coincidence… Vegas being “sin city” and all,” replied one Twitter user.

But despite Las Vegas being invaded by grasshoppers, users are still focusing on the beauty of it all.

The grasshopper invasion will continue for a couple of weeks at most. And now the grasshoppers are being joined by other pesky insects–stink bugs. According to KTNV Las Vegas, the stink bugs are a huge agricultural pest and if they come in large numbers, they’ll likely destroy crops.

Well, good luck, Las Vegas. We hope these grasshoppers still let y’all live your best lives.

Trillions Of Cicadas Are Set To Invade The U.S. After 17 Years Of Living Underground

Trillions Of Cicadas Are Set To Invade The U.S. After 17 Years Of Living Underground

In what is peak 2021 news, reports are stating that literally trillions of cicadas are set to emerge from their underground lives to invade portions of the United States. The bugs, colloquially but incorrectly known as “locusts,” are expected to appear for the first time since 2004 across 15 states in the Eastern U.S.

Of course, given the newscycle of 2020 and 2021 we really shouldn’t be surprised but still – yikes!

Scientists say to expect giant swarms of bugs in several U.S. states come the spring.

Trillions of cicadas are set to emerge across 15 U.S. states this spring, as a colony of insects known as Brood 10 awakens from a 17-year-long hibernation. Having spent almost two decades underground in their immature “nymph” state eating tree root sap, the bugs will crawl out in mid-May to late June when soil hits 64 degrees Fahrenheit—likely after a sprinkling of warm rain. Once above ground, the insects will set about mating, the noise of which can hit 100 decibels, and lay their eggs before dying.

Scientists say that Americans across 15 states – Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C – can expect densities of 1.5 million bugs per acre! That’s a whole lot of bugs, almost biblical.

The return of the cicadas typically starts around mid-May and runs through late June and is, needless to say, a wild spectacle. Some people view the insect invasion as an annoyance, while others welcome it as a wonder of nature. Some in the latter category even travel around the US to cicada emergence areas to experience the sights and sounds annually.

Experts want to assure everyone that these bugs are harmless and can even be a joy to watch.

Although the idea of swarms of insects appearing from the earth may sound unbearable and frightening, many insect enthusiasts and scientists view this as a wonderful opportunity for millions of people to witness and enjoy a remarkable biological phenomenon in their own backyard that happens nowhere else on the planet.

Experts point out that the bugs are harmless and typically don’t come indoors, though they do gather on outside walls, which let’s be real is pretty gross in its own right. The only way they could get inside is accidentally flying in through an open door or window, or because they had landed on a person who then carried them inside unnoticed.

Cardi B Sparks Rumors of Reconciliation With Offset After a PDA-Filled Birthday Weekend

Despite Cardi B filing for divorce from Offset last month (?) and proclaiming that she “hasn’t shed one tear” over the decision, it appears that she has since had a change of heart…

Over the weekend, video surfaced of Cardi B kissing Offset at her lavish 28th birthday party. The PDA was captured by camera-wielding partygoers. Offset also documented the weekend festivities on his own Instagram, posting a lot of Instagram stories of Cardi celebrating her birthday weekend.

Offset also posted a birthday message to Cardi on his Instagram page where he was practically gushing over his admiration for the Dominican rapper.

But Offset didn’t just simply attend Cardi’s birthday party. According to multiple outlets, Offset appeared to have gifted Cardi with a massive billboard that featured a picture of her and daughter, Kulture, in matching pink outfits. Cardi posted a video of her reaction to the billboard to her Instagram, captioning the post with: “Thank you sir. I love it.” Fans quickly guessed that the “sir” in question was Offset.

Not only that, but Offset allegedly gave Cardi a brand new Rolls Royce truck with Kulture’s name embellished on the seats. So to outside observers, it appears he’s pulling out all the stops to approve his love and affection.

Cardi B’s birthday party seemed to be quite the affair. The soiree was thrown in Las Vegas and was attended by the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and Kylie Jenner. Social distancing rules did not seem to be in place.

The apparent reconciliation between Cardi B and Offset comes just days after Offset appeared to look distressed on his own Instagram page. When fans asked him what the source of his haggard appearance was, the Migos rapper responded: “I miss Mrs. WAP.”

Cardi B was also recently noticeably defensive of her ex-husband, telling her fans to stop with the hatred of her former partner and the father of her child. “I don’t talk to him but you not going to disrespect my child father,” she told her fans via Twitter. “If he die, go broke, you not the one that’s going to raise my kid & you not the 1 who pays for her shit.”

We guess we’ll just have to stay tuned to see what happens with these two.
