A Migrant Mother Separated From Her Infant Daughter Has Not Been Allowed To Provide Her With Her Milk For Weeks

At this point, we sound like a broken record talking about the Trump administration’s immigration policies and the traumatizing effects such policies have on migrants traveling to the U.S. seeking a better life. Every week brings either gun violence against communities of color (made easier under the influence of Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric against these same communities), more cases of ICE raids throughout the country, and even more cases of families being separated at the border.

The most inhumane part of all of this continues to be the ways the Trump administration completely disregards children.

Guatemalan mother Maria Domingo-Garcia has been in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody for nearly a week.

She’s the mother of three and has been separated from her 4-month old daughter who she still breastfeeds. Maria Domingo-Garcia ended up in detention since being picked up during an ICE raid at Koch Foods in Morton, Mississippi. She was among the 680 undocumented immigrants that were detained earlier this month.

According to CNN, Domingo-Garcia is being held at a facility in Jena, Louisiana. The facility is nearly 200 miles from Morton. The Mississippi Clarion Ledger, who first reported the story, followed the 4-month-old baby’s father new journey in having to raise his three young children on his own, after Domingo-Garcia’s detention. However, he’s still facing his own deportation proceedings with his next court date set for 2021.

Now, the 4-month-old baby girl is left without her breastfeeding mother. According to CNN, when a woman is breastfeeding, the body continues to produce milk and if the milk isn’t “expressed” then it could cause pain and swelling.

According to an ICE spokesman, all detainees receive a “medical screening upon intake” and if a woman says that she’s breastfeeding or nursing, she may be released.

However, ICE is reportedly saying that Domingo-Garcia answered “no” when she was asked this question.

But Domingo-Garcia’s attorney’s (Ray Ybarra Maldonado and Juliana Manzanarez with Justice For Our Neighbors) are saying that “ICE is, once again, lying. She said nobody’s asked her—not even one time—if she’s been breastfeeding.”

Dalila Reynoso, an advocate with Justice For Our Neighbors and the two attorney’s are working with the family’s immigration case. “They hope the circumstances — the age of the infant, the breastfeeding and the woman’s lack of a criminal history — could convince immigration officials to let her out on bond quickly,” according to the Clarion Ledger.

Many on social media took to condemn ICE and the administration for keeping this mother away from her month-old daughter and other children.

“The Trump administration is keeping a mother from her four-month-old baby, who is still breastfeeding, and two other children after the ICE raids in Mississippi,” one tweet read.

2020 Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris also tweeted about the abuse of human rights by our own government.

“When will it end?” the California senator tweeted.

Of course, it didn’t take long for Ivanka Trump to share a social post that was severely ill-timed and out-of-touch.

The daughter of the president posted a photo of herself with her kids on the same week the news broke. Editor-in-chief of Rewire News, Jodi Jacobson, was quick to remind her of the mother being detained in ICE custody away from her children. Ivanka’s tweet could have been a coincidence but an ill-timed one at that.

Twitter user Juan Escalante shared the story, adding that while she’s in her father’s care—her father is fighting his own deportation as he continues to raise the rest of his children without their mother.

According to Domingo-Garcia’s attorney’s, the mother is devastated knowing she can’t properly care for or nurture her daughter.

Domingo-Garcia, originally from Guatemala, has lived in the U.S. for over 11 years. Aside from her 4-month-old baby girl, she has two songs, ages 3 and 11.

Her lawyers told CNN that the mother is “feeling the effects of having to suddenly stop breastfeeding.” The lawyer’s report, after visiting her in detention, that she’s “really depressed” and in pain from not being able to pump or breastfeed her baby girl.

This abuse of women’s rights in ICE detention facilities isn’t new and it also isn’t the only type. Earlier this year it was reported that nearly 30 women have miscarried while detained by ICE since 2017.

While her 4-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son might not fully grasp what’s happening to their mother right now, her 11-year-old son is a lot more aware and understands that his mother is gone. According to Domingo-Garcia’s lawyer’s, the 11-year-old son has said, “I want my mom back home. I don’t understand why they’re keeping her. She didn’t do anything wrong. We need her here.”

In August, an appalling scene came out of the small town of Morton, Mississippi, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained more than 600 people. ICE agents suspected that after a yearlong investigation, Koch Foods (a food processing plant) had hired hundreds of undocumented people. On the morning of Aug. 7, after many of the workers had dropped off their children at school, they went to work as usual only to be detained by immigration agents. The people were instructed to get on a bus where they would be taken to a detention center. Many of the children didn’t have a ride after school and were left without their parents. One little girl, in particular, captured the heart of many.

A young girl made national news when she cried out for her dad, who had been detained by ICE. Now, three months later, he has been released.

Magdalena Gomez Gregorio pleaded on television that she wanted her dad back and that he was not a criminal. The poor girl could bearly speak because she was so emotional. Gomez Gregorio was one of several kids who were left without their parents in what was viewed as the most massive raid in the country’s history.

“Government, please show some heart,” the 11-year-old girl said in August, according to WJTV. “Let my parent be free and everyone else, please don’t leave the child with cryness [sic] and everything. I need my dad … he’s not a criminal.”

At least 680 people were detained in August. ICE, in a rare move, said they would release at least one parent if both parents were arrested, so the children wouldn’t be completely alone.

A couple of days after the raid, the Department of Justice in Mississippi said they would release 30 people based on “humanitarian grounds,” but it was unclear if one of Gomez Gregorio’s parents was released during that time.

“As part of HSI procedures pursuant to this operation, if HSI encountered two alien parents with minor children at home, HSI released one of the parents on humanitarian grounds and returned that individual to the place from which they were arrested. HSI similarly released any single alien parent with minor children at home on humanitarian grounds and physically returned that person to the place where he or she was originally detained. Based on these procedures, it is believed that all children were with at least one of their parents as of last night,” the Department of Justice in Mississippi stated

The little girl’s dad, Andres Gomez-Jorge, was finally released from detention after his friends and family raised $7,500 for his bond.

CNN reports that the family is back together again, including with their mom. The main problem now is that they both are out of work. According to the network, Gomez-Jorge has to support his family of six, and as of now, are only surviving from generous donations.

While agents say, they had been investigating the food plant for a year, after detaining more than 600 people, only 11 people were prosecuted.

Owners of the food plant, the ones responsible for doing the hiring, were never charged for their participation in hiring people with fraudulent information.

“These are not new laws, nor is the enforcement of them new,” then-acting ICE director Matt Albence said in August, according to CNN.

“The arrests today were the result of a year-long criminal investigation. And the arrests and warrants that were executed today are just another step in that investigation.”

However, not much came out of that raid that instilled fear in the Latino community. We should note that the ICE raid in Mississippi occurred just days after the El Paso shooting that left 22 people dead and another 24 injured.

Donald Trump Jr. Tried To Go Head To Toe With Whoopi Goldberg On The View And All He Got Was A Line About His Dad’s Balls

ABC

If you have yet to find yourself impressed by the words and thoughts of  Donald Trump Jr. thus far, I implore you to not hold your breath for a change any time soon. The president’s eldest child is an American businessman and former reality television personality whose role as a key member of his father’s business pursuits have shifted endlessly from that have shifted throughout his father’s term in the White House. But was remained the same? Trump Jr.’s role as a bad take machine. Throughout his father’s presidential campaign and role as president, the American people have been subjected to Trump Jr.’s more ridiculous moments. The first son delivers a crunch of bizarre tweets and memes to Twitter on the regular that are often laced with falsehoods.

Trump’s recent comments during his interview on The View this week are no different.

Appearing on ABC’s “The View,” to promote his new book, Trump Jr. derailed the show’s conversations and sparked heated discussion amongst the co-hosts.

During his Thursday appearance on The View, Trump Jr. appeared on the show alongside his current girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle to promote his book “Triggered: How The Left Thrives On Hate And Wants To Silence Us.”

He also defended his decision to out the whistleblower who sparked his father’s House impeachment probe and Twitter and insisted to the co-host that his father has “got a pair.”

When confronted about his decision to leak the whistleblower’s name and put them in danger, Trump Jr. defended his decision say “I think the reality of the answer is the whistle-blower’s name was on a little website called the Drudge Report a couple of days ago. I literally quote tweeted an article that had the guy’s name in the title of the article,” Trump Jr. told the co-hosts during his interview. After being further pressed about whether his decision was justifiable, Trump insisted that he was being held to a double standard. “I wish the outrage would be equal. I mean, there was no outrage when, you know, my family got an exploding letter of, you know, with white powder substance in it,” he told the panelists.

On Wednesday of this week, the president’s son shared a post to Twitter that contained the alleged name of the anonymous government whistleblower who sparked an investigation into whether Trump and his administration had been involved in a quid pro quo deal with Ukrainian officials that involved an investigation into presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son.

During one particularly tense exchange during his appearance, co-host Whoopi Goldberg questioned whether or not Trump actually has a pair, to which Trump Jr. insisted that he did.

The conversation occurred when Meghan McCain questioned Trump Jr. about his father’s character.

“A lot of Americans in politics miss character, and a lot of people miss the soul of this country. You and your family have hurt a lot of people and put a lot of people through a lot of pain, including the Khan family who was a Gold Star family who I think should be respected because of the loss of their son. Does all this make you feel good?” asked McCain.

McCain’s question referenced the criticism of Khizr and Ghazala Khan, Muslim-Americans whose son was killed in Iraq, that had been unleashed onto the family by Trump after they appeared at the Democratic National Convention.

In response, Trump Jr. said  “We have all done things that we regret. I don’t think any of that makes me feel good, but I think we got into this because we wanted to do what’s right for America. My father has been working tirelessly to bring back the American dream. He has brought jobs back.”

It was then that Guilfoyle, Trump Jr.’s girlfriend replied “Ninety-three percent negative coverage in the mainstream media about President Trump… They don’t want to talk about the successes!”

Whoopi Goldberg shot back saying “Suck it up!”

It was then that Trump JR. claimed that no president had ever received as much negative media coverage as his father. (This claim is, of course, debatable considering how many times Obama and his family’s life was threatened by racist threats and attack attempts.)

Eventually, Goldberg cut into Trump’s words saying “Part of being president is having a pair that can take whatever heat comes toward you. To which, Trump Jr. grinned and awkwardly insisted “My father’s got a pair!”

What a takeaway to mull over…

Anyway…

Soon after the episode of the show was aired, Trump Jr. posted an antagonistic tweet.

“I don’t think I’ve enjoyed an interview this much in my life. Guess you could say that I just #Triggered The View!!!” he wrote
