Here’s Why Some Green New Deal Opponents Claim AOC Is Anti-Environment

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the face of the Green New Deal proposal, which only happened by chance. It’s a role she came across serendipitously when she saw a group of environmental advocates demonstrating in a sit-in in the hall of the House of Congress. Ocasio-Cortez’s roots are in protests and demonstrations so she listened to the protesters and just like that she became their most visible cheerleader.

A news outlet called out Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to say that she’s allegedly not leading an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The New York Post had someone compiling the recipients on Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. They first plastered her words on the environment in which she discussed the dire environmental reports that say doomsday is upon us (in like 12 years). She also recently said people should question the idea of having children if there’s no suitable place for them to live — and conservatives lost it on that one.

So the Post tallied up her usage of taking cars instead of public transportation.

The New York Post went on to detail every time she has used a car service and compared it to her subway rides. “Since declaring her candidacy in May 2017, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign heavily relied on those combustion-engine cars — even though a subway station was just 138 feet from her Elmhurst campaign office. She listed 1,049 transactions for Uber, Lyft, Juno and other car services, federal filings show. The campaign had 505 Uber expenses alone. In all, Ocasio-Cortez spent $29,365.70 on those emissions-spewing vehicles, along with car and van rentals — even though her Queens HQ was a one-minute walk to the 7 train. The campaign shelled out only $8,335.41 on 52 MetroCard transactions.”

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez responded honestly by saying that just because she uses a car service, airplanes, and an AC unit doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to create a better future.

“I also fly ✈️ & use A/C Living in the world as it is isn’t an argument against working towards a better future,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “The Green New Deal is about putting a LOT of people to work in developing new technologies, building new infrastructure, and getting us to 100% renewable energy.”

AOC is pushing the Green New Deal to combat climate change and has faced opposition from all sides.

Climate change is one of the greatest threats to humanity right now. Scientists have warned that we have just 12 years to change course before we witness more catastrophic events and reach a point of no return when it comes to devastating damage to the planet. The Pentagon has announced that climate change is also one of the greatest threats to national security.

According to a report, a mere increase in the average temperature by 1.5 degrees Celsius could bring catastrophic consequences to human life. Some of the consequences include deadly heat waves, massive water shortages, and devastating coastal flooding.

AOC’s Green New Deal is a major piece of legislation aimed at curbing the ever developing climate change crisis.

AOC has stayed committed to her fight to curb climate change since she was running for office in the 2018 elections and is not slowing down. Her determination to pass the legislation has caused strife within the Democratic party as senior and freshman members clash over the piece of legislation. The New York Post is the latest attack on the congresswoman and her attempt to answer to one of the nation’s most immediate threats.
