Paul Guadalupe Gonzales made national headlines when his dine and dashing antics first came to light. The 45-year-old is accused of dining and dashing on eight women since mid-2016 defrauding them of $950. After more than two years of defrauding women on dates, Gonzales has been arrested and could face more than 10 years in prison.
Paul Guadalupe Gonzales, 45, faces 13 years in prison for going on dates, racking up the bill and ditching the women before the check arrived.
One of the women — who wished to remain anonymous — told a CBS affiliate back in 2016 that she went on a date with Gonzales after they met online in May. She said that he initially seemed very nice and made lots of conversation. She also said that the date became awkward when he ordered $100 worth of food just for himself.
“This guy is obnoxious,” the women told CBS News. “First of all, who orders two entrees? But he excused it by saying he was a bodybuilder.”
The L.A. District Attorney’s Office allege that Gonzales has been scamming women out of hundreds of dollars between May 2016 through April 2018.
“He allegedly went to dinner with them at restaurants in Pasadena, Long Beach, Burbank and Los Angeles, where he ordered and consumed food and drinks, then allegedly left without paying any of the bill,” according to a press release from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
According to a press release from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Gonzales faces “seven counts of extortion, two counts of attempted extortion and one count of grand theft, all felonies, according to the criminal complaint in case GA103750. He also is charged with two misdemeanor counts each of defrauding an innkeeper and petty theft.”
At least eight women will be included in the case against Gonzales, and attorneys say he defrauded them out of $950 total.
The district attorneys office say that aside from the women, two restaurants that picked up the check are also listed among the victims. There are also accusations that Gonzales left a hair salon after receiving services and didn’t pay.
Gonzales pleaded not guilty to charges of extortion, grand theft and other charges. If he is found guilty by the jury, he faces a maximum of 13 years in prison.
“@MorningExp: Dine & dash dater may be getting his meals behind bars soon! Women say he'd meet for a meal, eat steaks, and then vanish when it was time to pay. pic.twitter.com/bAWIj1PoGM” Can’t even trust a guy for dinner 😂😂😂

One of the women says that if Gonzales goes to prison, he’ll be eating for free.
“He doesn’t have to worry about any meals now. He’s gonna get three square meals a day,” she said, according to the BBC.
