People Are Having Real Mixed Feelings Now That Diego Luna Has Been Cast Alongside Selena Gomez In This Woody Allen Film
Diego Luna kept his accent intact when he starred in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” winning the hearts and adoration of Latinos and immigrants who felt like they were watching a character that reminded them of themselves. He became a symbol of rebellion in a story about rebellion in which he played, yup, you guessed it, a rebel. Which is why it was surprising for many of his fans to see him recently cast in an upcoming Woody Allen film. The yet to be named film marks Woody Allen’s 50th film. Little is known about it save for its star studded cast, which includes Liev Schreiber, Elle Fanning and Jude Law.
Allen, who is notable as the writer and director for films like “Annie Hall,” “Manhattan” and “Midnight In Paris,” is also notorious for having married his unofficial step-daughter. He has also faced allegations of child molestation of his other adopted daughter for decades. So, it’s understandable that Luna fans were confused about the movie, especially after all the juice he’d earned playing heartthrob space rebel Cassian Andor in “Star Wars.” Many of them were not shy about sharing their feelings on Twitter.
Variety was one of the first to announce Diego Luna’s participation in the new Woody Allen film and the heartache started immediately.

This Twitter user felt like Luna wiped out on the Star Wars wave he was riding.
Ohhhhhh noooooo. Diego Luna just squandered all that #StarWars goodwill by getting cast in child molester Woody Allen’s next project 🙁

This Twitter user summoned Obi-Wan’s famous quote to describe his disappointment.

“You were the Chosen One! You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them. You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness.”
Some were even willing to pitch ideas of other things he could be doing with his time.
Hey Selena, Elle, and Diego: what if instead you did a movie about three fashionable vigilantes who murder sexual abusers in Hollywood

A slew of other celebrities are of course involved, including Selena Gomez, but it looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
